4 Bi: Joint pain is burning, red and swollen, and is relieved by cooling down. Treatment method: Unblock the meridians, dispel wind and dampness.

TCM Syndrome Differentiation and Treatment:

① Chaige Jieji Decoction (from "Six Books on Febrile Diseases"): Bupleurum, Pueraria root, Licorice, Scutellaria baicalensis, Notopterygium wilfordii, Angelica dahurica, Paeonia lactiflora, Platycodon grandiflorum, Gypsum. It is suitable for patients with rheumatoid arthritis characterized by chills, fever, joint pain, muscle aches, and wind-heat on the surface according to TCM diagnosis.

② Qianghuo Shengshi Decoction (from "Discussion on the Differentiation of Internal and External Injuries"): Qianghuo, Duhuo, Ligusticum chuanxiong, Saposhnikovia divaricata, Chuanxiong, Roasted Licorice, and Vitex manji. It is suitable for patients with rheumatoid arthritis characterized by headache, heaviness of the head, heaviness of the waist and back, chills and slight fever, and rheumatism on the surface according to Chinese medicine.

③ Sanbi Decoction (from "Good Prescriptions for Women"): Duhuo, Qinjiao, Fangfeng, Asarum, Angelica, Peony, Chuanxiong, Gandihuang, Eucommia, Achyranthes, Codonopsis, Poria, Licorice, Cinnamon Bark, Astragalus, Dipsacus, and Ginger. It is suitable for patients with rheumatoid arthritis that does not heal for a long time, cold pain in the waist and knees, cramps in the hands and feet, and arthralgia caused by wind, cold and dampness according to Chinese medicine diagnosis, which belongs to the category of liver and kidney deficiency and insufficient qi and blood.

④ Qunbi Decoction (Bai Yi Xuan Fang): Notopterygium wilfordii, turmeric, angelica (soaked in wine), astragalus (roasted with honey), red peony root, saposhnikovia divaricata, roasted licorice, and ginger. It is suitable for migratory pain in the joints of rheumatoid arthritis, especially pain in the neck, back, shoulders and elbows, and for those diagnosed with rheumatism by traditional Chinese medicine.

⑤ Xuanbi Decoction (Treatise on Febrile Diseases): Stephania tetrandra, apricot kernel, forsythia suspensa, talcum powder, coix seed, pinellia tuber, silkworm feces, adzuki bean peel, gardenia jasmine. It is suitable for patients with rheumatoid arthritis who suffer from painful joints, difficulty in moving, chills and fever, and who are diagnosed with damp-heat arthralgia according to traditional Chinese medicine.

⑥ Modified Mufangji Decoction (from "Treatise on Febrile Diseases"): Mufangji, gypsum, cinnamon twig, coix seed, talcum powder, tongcao, and apricot kernel. Suitable for patients in the acute stage of rheumatoid arthritis with redness, swelling, heat and pain in the joints.
