Joy, Anger, Worry, Sadness, Fear, and Health

Joy, Anger, Worry, Sadness, Fear, and Health

Under normal circumstances, different mental and emotional changes occur with the stimulation of different external factors. Moderate changes in mental and emotional states are within the normal physiological range and will not cause disease. On the contrary, when the stimulation is excessive, lasts too long, and exceeds the normal adaptive capacity, it becomes a pathogenic factor and disease may occur.

Mental emotions are a special form of reflection of objective reality. Changes in mental emotions are the symbol of health, and the loss of this unique function is a manifestation of pathology. Normal changes in mental and emotional states are not only a reflection of the functions of internal organs, but also the basis for maintaining the functions of internal organs. They are the invisible medium for coordinating the functions of internal organs. As pointed out in the "Inner Canon of Medicine": "When one is happy, the qi is harmonious and the mind is clear, and the blood circulation and defense are smooth." This shows that normal changes in mental and emotional states can maintain the functions of internal organs, promote the circulation of qi and blood, and maintain health.

Modern medicine believes that health refers to a state in which the body and mind are sound and able to carry out various physical and mental activities. This is consistent with the "unity of form and spirit" emphasized by traditional Chinese medicine, that is, the unity of form and spirit. For example, the famous Chinese medicine book "Su Wen" pointed out: "If joy and anger are not controlled... life will be unstable", "Anger hurts the liver, joy hurts the heart, thinking hurts the spleen, worry hurts the lungs, and fear hurts the kidneys."

Nowadays, people have paid enough attention to mental health. If you want to be healthy and live a long life, the most important experience is to express your feelings, be open-minded, optimistic, and prevent diseases before they occur. To this end, I have briefly listed a few examples for your reference.

A rule to control anger

The "Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor" points out: "All diseases are caused by qi, and qi rises" and "anger hurts the liver", which means that anger can cause illness. To stay healthy, one should always control anger. All the old people who keep a good health regimen are very careful about anger. They have a motto: "To live a long life, one must control the wrath of thunder. To stay healthy, one must quench the fire of lightning."

Second, relieve worries and sorrows

The famous writer Bing Xin said: "If one is not burdened by personal gain in life, his mind will become broad, his spirit will be fulfilled, his mood will naturally be optimistic, and his emotions will naturally be high." When you feel sad, you must not "worry alone behind closed doors", but go out into the yard, run, play ball, practice boxing, listen to music to relax your mood.

Three Ways to Get Rid of Sadness

In the torrent of joy, people are bound to encounter one or two sad things. Such as career setbacks, grief over the death of a loved one, suffering from illness, distress over a broken heart, etc., can all make people feel sad. We should have the spirit of self-extrication, adjust our spirits, dispel all kinds of sad emotions, set up ambitious goals, look to the future, let the sorrow dissipate like clouds and fog, and broaden our minds.

In short, avoid anger to nourish your nature, think less to nourish your spirit, speak less to nourish your energy, and stop thinking to nourish your heart, so that you can be healthy and live a long life.
