Treatment of otitis externa

Treatment of otitis externa

The ears are a relatively fragile part of the body. Swimming and picking the ears can cause certain damage to the ears, and can easily lead to bacterial infection and otitis externa, which requires us to pay enough attention to it. There are many bacteria that can cause otitis externa. Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are all pathogens. We must be more careful in our lives. Let's take a look at the main contents of the treatment of otitis externa.

Patients with otitis externa will experience rupture of the external auditory canal and swelling of the ear canal, which will cause hearing loss and even deafness in severe cases. This is extremely harmful to the human body and requires us to actively seek treatment and recover as soon as possible.

Treatment of external otitis: Place 1.1% to 2% phenol glycerin or 10% ichthyol glycerin cotton plugs in the external auditory canal, or apply Chinese medicine swelling-reducing powder plus 2% dyclonine berberine ointment topically, and give antibiotics and analgesics when necessary. 2. Local hot compress, physical therapy or procaine blockade treatment. 3. If the furuncle is already fluctuating, incision and drainage can be performed. 4. For patients with recurrent illness, attention should be paid to whether they have chronic wasting diseases, such as diabetes, nephritis, malnutrition, etc., and appropriate treatment should be given. Drug treatment generally aims to reduce the size of the perforation by means of antibacterial, pus drainage and swelling reduction. However, it is difficult to achieve the healing of the perforation with drug treatment alone, and it is difficult to effectively treat otitis externa, which is prone to recurrence.

Clinical manifestations: 1. Pain caused by traction on the auricle, tenderness on the tragus, or pain when chewing; 2. Ulceration and pus discharge from the external auditory canal; 3. Hearing loss due to swelling and blockage of the ear canal; 4. If the furuncle is on the front wall of the external auditory canal, swelling in front of the ear may occur and may involve the parotid gland; furunculosis on the posterior wall may cause swelling behind the ear and in the mastoid area. Examination of the affected ear reveals single or multiple small boils in the external auditory canal, which appear as localized redness, swelling and bulges. The pain is significantly aggravated by pulling the auricle or pressing the tragus. Blood tests may show an increased white blood cell count.

The above content is an introduction to the treatment of otitis externa. I hope it can be of some help to you. We need to do a good job of preventing otitis externa in our lives. It is forbidden to pick the ears frequently, and the external auditory canal should be kept clean at all times. In the early stages of the disease, external hot compresses can be used to relieve the condition. Be careful not to press on the affected ear when sleeping to avoid aggravating the condition.
