Can a broken arm be reattached?

If an accident occurs to the human body, medical treatment should be given in time, because it is common for arms to be broken in accidents. This is a serious problem. A broken arm means that the bones are broken. Then timely treatment should be provided. But people will definitely have many questions, such as can a broken arm be reconnected?

1. How to give first aid if your arm is broken

After a fracture occurs, a splint should be used to immobilize the affected area immediately. If the fracture is not fixed and allowed to move, it may affect the nerves and blood vessels and cause paralysis. However, when a bone is broken, there will be continuous swelling due to local internal bleeding, so it should not be fixed too tightly, otherwise it will compress the blood vessels and cause congestion.

The fixation method is to attach a wooden board to one side of the affected limb, place soft items such as cotton or towels between the board and the limb, and then tie it with a belt. The tightness should be moderate. The wooden board should extend beyond the upper and lower joints of the fracture site and perform fixation beyond the joints, so as to completely fix the affected limb. If you don't have wooden boards at home, you can use tree branches, rolling pins, umbrellas, newspaper rolls, etc. instead.

For open fractures with broken skin, due to severe bleeding, you can apply pressure with clean and sterilized gauze and then use a splint outside the gauze. When pressure cannot stop the bleeding, a tourniquet can be used and the time to stop the bleeding should be marked on the tourniquet.

2. Reasons for breaking the arm

Direct violence

Violence directly acts on a certain part of the bone, causing a fracture in that part, resulting in a fracture in the injured part, often accompanied by varying degrees of soft tissue damage. If the wheel hits the calf, a fracture of the tibia and fibula will occur at the impact site.

Indirect violence

Indirect violence can cause fractures at a distance through longitudinal conduction, leverage or torsion. For example, when someone falls from a height and lands on his feet, the trunk bends forward sharply due to gravity, causing compression or burst fractures of the vertebrae at the junction of the thoracic and lumbar spine.

Cumulative strain

Long-term, repeated, minor direct or indirect injuries can cause fractures in a specific part of the limbs, also known as fatigue fractures. For example, long-distance walking can easily lead to fractures of the second and third metatarsal bones and the lower 1/3 of the fibula.

3. How to check if your arm is broken?

X-ray examination: Anyone suspected of having a fracture should undergo routine X-ray examination, which can show incomplete fractures, deep fractures, intra-articular fractures and small avulsion fractures that are difficult to detect clinically. Even if a fracture is obvious clinically, X-ray examination is necessary, which can understand the type and specific circumstances of the fracture and provide guidance for treatment.

X-rays should include frontal and lateral views, and must include adjacent joints. Sometimes additional oblique, tangential or corresponding parts of the healthy side are required.

Aspiration pneumonia: It often occurs in patients who have been bedridden for a long time due to fractures, especially the elderly and weak people and those with chronic diseases. It can sometimes endanger the patient's life. Patients should be encouraged to get out of bed and move around as soon as possible.
