Will hemorrhoids recur after surgery?

The anorectum is an important organ in our body, and often due to some reasons, we will cause diseases in the anorectal area. For example, hemorrhoids are a disease related to the anorectal area, and the incidence of hemorrhoids in our body is still very high. Many friends suffer from hemorrhoids. Generally, external hemorrhoids will not affect human health when they are not in an attack, but internal hemorrhoids are different. In addition, severe hemorrhoids require surgical treatment. So, will hemorrhoids recur after surgery?

In fact, very few people truly understand the above question. It is very normal to undergo surgery for hemorrhoids, because hemorrhoids are often very harmful to our human body. Sometimes they not only harm physical health, but more often they also affect the patient's mental health. So, in response to this situation, let’s talk about the question of whether hemorrhoids will recur after surgery.

Hemorrhoids are soft venous masses formed by the expansion and bending of the venous plexus under the mucosa of the terminal rectum and the skin of the anal canal. It is more common in people who stand frequently or sit for long periods of time. Hemorrhoids include internal hemorrhoids, external hemorrhoids, and mixed hemorrhoids. They are a chronic disease in which the venous plexus at the bottom of the anorectum and anal mucosa becomes varicose, forming one or more soft venous masses.

Hemorrhoids are the result of anal cushion syndrome. Under normal circumstances, the opening and closing of the arteriovenous anastomosis in the anal cushions are performed alternately, about 8 to 12 times per minute. Since the anastomosis tube can open freely, it plays a significant role in regulating the temperature and blood volume in the anal cushion area and is a good blood volume regulator. The contraction and relaxation of the smooth muscle of the arteriovenous anastomosis are mainly regulated by locally produced vasomotor hormones.

Hemorrhoids can recur after surgery. It is only for patients who do not pay attention to changing their living and eating habits after surgery. Hemorrhoids are caused by varicose veins, congestion, inflammation, edema, etc. at the lower end of the anal canal and rectum. It is related to men's long-term drinking, eating spicy and irritating foods, long-term sitting, long-term standing, long-term squatting in the toilet, constipation, etc. This surgical treatment is generally used to treat this attack of hemorrhoids. This attack does not affect all the venous plexuses in the anal canal, and the surgery cannot completely remove the veins in the anal canal and rectal mucosa. If you do not pay attention to changing your lifestyle and eating habits after the operation, do not quit drinking, do not avoid eating spicy and irritating foods, barbecue and other foods that are likely to cause venous dilation, do not change constipation, and do not stand or sit for long periods of time, which are likely to cause venous congestion, the originally normal veins may become diseased again, dilate and recur. Generally speaking, after surgery, especially PPH surgery for hemorrhoids, if you also change those lifestyle habits that are likely to cause hemorrhoids, recurrence is basically rare.

Therefore, after understanding the above, we also know that hemorrhoids will recur after surgery, and there are many reasons leading to recurrence. However, if our patients improve their lifestyle habits and get rid of those bad habits that are likely to cause hemorrhoids, it will generally not lead to recurrence of hemorrhoids after surgery. Therefore, the decision on this issue still lies with our patients themselves.
