Difference between Chickenpox and Smallpox

Smallpox and chickenpox infections are two different viruses. Smallpox is basically eradicated in the world; there is also a vaccine for chickenpox. Even if you get chickenpox, it is not something to be afraid of. During the period of chickenpox, pay attention to rest and prevent complications. Most people who have had chickenpox will be immune for life. In a few people, the virus will lurk in the nerves, and when the body's resistance is reduced, shingles will occur.

Smallpox: Caused by the variola virus. The smallpox virus is transmitted through the air and spreads at an alarming rate. Carriers are most contagious within 1 week of infection because their saliva contains the highest amount of smallpox virus. However, until the scars on the patient have healed and peeled off, smallpox can still be transmitted to others through the patient. The average incubation period after infection with the smallpox virus is about 12 days (7-17 days). Initial symptoms of infection include high fever, fatigue, headache and back pain. After 2-3 days, a typical smallpox rash will appear on the face, arms and legs. In the early stages of the rash, light red patches may appear along with the rash. The lesions begin to suppurate after a few days and begin to scab over in the second week. Over the next 3-4 weeks it slowly develops into scabies and then slowly flakes off. Most people who get smallpox recover.

Varicella: A highly contagious, acute exanthematous disease caused by the varicella virus. Transmitted through airborne droplets or close contact with people. Most infected children are preschoolers, especially those who live in groups. The disease occurs about two weeks after chickenpox infection. In the early stages of the disease, there will be fever, rashes and small blisters like dewdrops on the body. The rash first appears on the trunk and then gradually spreads to the limbs. The rash is very itchy and children often scratch it with their hands. The blisters will gradually scab and heal within 7 to 10 days without complications.
