What causes adult encephalitis?

The occurrence of adult encephalitis has a relatively large impact and harm on patients, and the occurrence of this disease is more often caused by some viruses, such as intestinal bacteria, herpes simplex virus or myxovirus infections.

1. Viral encephalitis refers to primary encephalitis caused by direct virus invasion of the brain parenchyma. This disease occurs throughout the year, so it is also called sporadic encephalitis. Common viruses that cause encephalitis include enteroviruses, herpes simplex virus, myxoviruses, and some other viruses. The main clinical manifestations are symptoms of brain parenchymal damage and signs of intracranial hypertension, such as fever, headache, vomiting, convulsions, and coma in severe cases. However, due to the different locations and ranges of virus invasion, the severity and forms of the disease may vary. Some children show mental changes, such as wanting to sleep all day, poor spirits, or shouting and screaming, or losing consciousness; others experience paralysis of their hands and feet. Due to the different types of infected viruses, the clinical manifestations and prognosis vary. Mild patients, even critically ill patients, will have a good prognosis as long as they are treated in time; if they are in critical condition and cannot be rescued in time, the consequences will be serious, which may lead to death or serious sequelae, such as paralysis, mental retardation, secondary epilepsy, etc.

2. Care should be strengthened during the course of the disease to prevent the occurrence of bedsores . It is necessary to provide a certain amount of water, nutrition and electrolytes. Accidents must be prevented for children who display mental symptoms. Watch for signs of brain herniation.

3. Although there is no effective antiviral drug at present , the following drugs can be used: iodine (herpes net), triazole nucleoside (ribavirin), immunoglobulin G. Others such as transfer factor and interferon can enhance the body's resistance to viruses and can be used.
