Moxibustion treatment methods

Moxibustion treatment methods

Moxibustion is a treatment method in Traditional Chinese Medicine. People now live in a society where there are many diseases due to high work pressure and unhygienic and unsafe food. Some of them can be cured by Western medicine, while others need to be cured by Traditional Chinese Medicine. Moxibustion is a relatively common and effective treatment method in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and it can also cure diseases and strengthen the body when there is no disease.

There are many specific methods of moxibustion therapy, and the following are commonly used ones.

1. Moxibustion therapy

The cone-shaped moxa ball that is burned during moxibustion is called moxa cone. Moxibustion is often divided into direct moxibustion (further divided into suppurative moxibustion and non-suppurative moxibustion) and indirect moxibustion. This therapy is widely used in clinical practice. It can be used for health care as well as treatment of diseases. It is especially suitable for deficiency and cold syndromes, such as asthma and gastrointestinal diseases.

(II) Moxibustion therapy

The use of moxa sticks to apply moxibustion on acupuncture points or lesion areas is called moxa stick moxibustion therapy, and the operation is usually divided into gentle moxibustion, sparrow pecking moxibustion, and spiral moxibustion. It is mainly used to treat cold-dampness arthralgia and other various deficiency-cold diseases.

3. Medicinal Roll Moxibustion Therapy

The method of medicated roll moxibustion is to mix medicinal powder into moxa, wrap the moxa with paper to make a medicated roll, and then light one end to perform moxibustion. The indications are roughly the same as the above two moxibustion methods.

4. Warm acupuncture therapy

First, select acupoints for acupuncture according to the nature of the disease, and leave the needles in place after qi is obtained. Then wrap moxa around the needle handle and ignite it until it burns out, so that the heat can be transmitted to the body through the needle body, achieving the purpose of warming the meridians and dispersing cold.

(V) Ginger moxibustion therapy

Take a piece of ginger about 2 cm thick, place it on the selected acupuncture point, then place the moxa cone on the ginger slice and light it for moxibustion. After the moxa cone has burned out, place the moxa cone again and apply moxibustion repeatedly, usually until the local skin becomes flushed. All kinds of cold and deficiency diseases can be treated with this therapy.

In addition, there are other therapies similar to the ginger moxibustion therapy, such as "garlic moxibustion", "spreading moxibustion" (spreading garlic paste on the acupuncture points), "salt moxibustion", "aconite moxibustion", "onion moxibustion", "pepper moxibustion", "loess moxibustion", "yellow wax moxibustion", "sulfur moxibustion", "medicine tablet inflammation", "medicine twist moxibustion", etc., and the main diseases and symptoms treated are also similar.

(VI) Lamp moxibustion therapy

Dip the rush in fragrant oil, light it, and apply moxibustion on children. This therapy is mainly used for acute diseases such as convulsions and coma in children.

Above, we have briefly learned about several moxibustion techniques and the main diseases they target. Although today’s diseases are hard to prevent, as long as we persist in exercising, eat more vegetables and fruits, and exercise more, we can improve our immunity and prevent virus invasion.
