Treatment of syringomyelia

Treatment of syringomyelia

Most of us are not aware of syringomyelia, but it exists around us and poses a threat to our lives. Therefore, once syringomyelia is diagnosed, it must be treated immediately. Remember not to delay the treatment. There are also many treatments for syringomyelia.

There is no specific treatment for this disease. The general treatment uses neurotrophic drugs. In the past, radionuclide therapy, radiotherapy and traditional Chinese medicine have been used. Currently, the trend is towards surgical treatment, but there is still a lack of recognized and unified surgical methods.

1. Surgical treatment: For larger cavities with spinal canal obstruction, upper cervical laminectomy and decompression can be performed. For combined cervical occipital deformity and cerebellar tonsillar herniation, suboccipital decompression can be performed. Surgery can be used to correct skull and nerve tissue deformities. Tension syrinx can be treated with myelotomy and syringo-subarachnoid shunt.

2. Radiotherapy can try radionuclide 131 iodine therapy (oral or spinal injection), but the efficacy is uncertain.

3. Symptomatic treatment can include analgesics, B vitamins, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), coenzyme A, inosine, etc.; those who have lost their sense of pain should prevent trauma, burns or frostbite, prevent joint contracture, and assist with massage, etc.

First of all, the diet for syringomyelia should contain a lot of high-protein, high-vitamin, easily digestible foods. Through reasonable nutritional matching and proper cooking, the patient's appetite can be improved as much as possible so that the nutrition and energy in the patient's diet can meet the body's needs.

Secondly, patients with syringomyelia should not take foods that are detrimental to their condition and highly irritating foods, such as chili peppers, coffee, etc., especially patients in the acute stage and patients with yin deficiency and hyperactivity of fire.

Again, patients with syringomyelia should follow the doctor's advice on diet, and should start with a soft and thin diet until the body gradually adapts before adding other foods. Be careful not to eat too much fatty food. It is necessary to rationally combine sugar, fat, protein, minerals, vitamins, etc. to achieve a scientific diet.

For patients, diet in life is also very important. Many people are unable to fully recover after surgery because they do not pay attention to their diet. This is something we need to pay attention to. A good eating habit will also keep us away from diseases.
