Treatment of mandibular nerve injury

Tooth extraction is something that everyone has to go through. When we were young, we were most afraid of tooth extraction. In the past, tooth extraction was the job of the parents, but now people choose to have their teeth extracted in the hospital because there are nerves under each tooth, and improper extraction will damage the mandibular nerve.

The mandibular ganglion is a mixed nerve that exits the skull through the foramen ovale. Its sensory fibers are distributed in the mandibular teeth, gums, anterior tongue, oral floor mucosa, and facial skin below the oral fissure; the motor nerves control the function of the masticatory muscles.

The mandibular nerve (n. mandibularis) is a mixed nerve and the largest of the three branches. After emerging from the trigeminal ganglion, it exits the cranial cavity through the oval foramen to reach the infratemporal fossa and immediately divides into many branches. Among them, special visceral motor fibers innervate the muscles of mastication. Generally, somatic sensory fibers are distributed in the mandibular teeth, gums, the anterior 2/3 of the tongue, the mucosa of the floor of the mouth, as well as the ear-temporal area and the facial skin below the oral fissure.

1. The prevention and care of trigeminal neuralgia must pay attention to dietary adjustment. It is appropriate to choose easily digestible and soft foods, and the diet must be regular. Do not eat fried, spicy, overly sour, overly sweet, or hot foods.

The diet must be rich in nutrition, eat more foods containing vitamins and heat-clearing and detoxifying foods, especially fresh vegetables, fruits and soy products, eat less fat, more lean meat, and the taste should be light.

2. Trigeminal neuralgia has a lot of pain trigger points, so patients should be gentle when rinsing their mouths, talking, brushing their teeth and washing their faces to avoid touching the trigger points and inducing pain.

3. What are the prevention and care methods for trigeminal neuralgia? Winter is particularly cold, and the cold wind can stimulate the trigeminal nerve, thereby inducing the onset of pain. Therefore, patients are advised to keep warm and avoid washing their faces with too cold or too hot water. In addition, the bedroom environment should have fresh air, but no cold wind should invade.

4. The patient's mood is closely related to the onset of trigeminal neuralgia. Therefore, the patient should maintain a happy mood, listen to more soft music, and release inner pressure. In addition, patients should also participate in physical exercise to improve their body's resistance.

Nerve recovery is a difficult and long process. You can take some nerve nourishing drugs to help the nerves recover. Pay attention to rest and don't overwork. Because the mandibular nerve controls the masseter muscle, use your mouth less to chew food during the time the mandibular nerve recovers. Try to eat liquid food and don't let your mouth get too big.
