The skin suddenly feels like it's being pricked by needles

I don’t know if you have ever experienced this. Sometimes you feel a sudden pain in your skin like a needle prick. When you check if there are burrs on your clothes, you find that there is nothing on the clothes. This phenomenon often occurs and is called cholestatic urticaria. It is caused by excessive tension and has a lot to do with the hot or cold environment we live in. So what should you do if your skin suddenly feels like a needle prick?

Cholestatic urticaria is a type of what people often call "urticaria". When the body temperature rises slightly due to heat, mental stress, intake of hot food or drink, or after exercise, the increased blood flow stimulates the brain's temperature regulation center, excites the choleretic nerves and releases acetylcholine. If you are allergic to this chemical, an allergic reaction may occur.

This type of allergic reaction, in addition to having no rash but only a tingling and severe itching sensation, may also cause the appearance of red "wheals" about 2 mm in size on the skin of the trunk and proximal limbs (except the armpits, palms and soles). These wheals come and go quickly without leaving any trace. Mild cholestatic urticaria can occur in normal people during adolescence. Generally, the symptoms will subside after stopping exercise or calming down, so it is not easy to attract attention. The whole process can take months or years. Those with frequent attacks should go to a dermatologist for diagnosis and treatment in time. The condition can be alleviated or relieved through treatment with antihistamines and antiacetylcholine drugs.

【Treatment】 Finding out the cause and eliminating the risk factors is the way to cure the disease. However, the cause of urticaria, especially chronic urticaria, is often difficult to find, so in most cases it is often treated symptomatically. Some people who cannot get rid of the disease should reduce various precipitating factors, especially in the case of physical urticaria. At the same time, attention should be paid to avoiding various factors that aggravate skin vasodilation. Can be given

1. Antihistamines: There are mainly H1 receptor antagonists and H2 receptor antagonists. The antihistamine effects of various antihistamines are different in degree, and their other pharmacological effects are also different. For example, cyproheptadine is effective for cold urticaria, and Antal is effective for hot urticaria. For refractory urticaria, H1 and H2 receptor antagonists can be used in combination to improve the efficacy.

2. Adrenal cortical hormones: For acute, severe or stubborn cases, such as anaphylactic shock, serum sickness urticaria, pressure urticaria, etc., 100-200 mg of hydrocortisone can be added to 5% glucose solution and intravenously dripped, or 30-40 mg of prednisone can be taken orally. This therapy is generally not suitable for long-term use.

3. Antibiotics: Appropriate antibiotics can be used for urticaria caused by infection, especially for urticaria caused by obvious or latent infection of the gastrointestinal tract.

4. Drugs that reduce the permeability of blood vessel walls: such as vitamin C, vitamin P, and calcium supplements. Often used with antihistamines.
