Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the spleen and stomach are the foundation of acquired constitution. We also know that if the spleen and stomach are healthy, food tastes good and the body is healthy. However, modern people have irregular diet, which leads to spleen and stomach disharmony and diarrhea after eating. So, how do we know if we have a bad spleen and stomach? In fact, the health of the spleen and stomach can be determined by looking at three parts. Let's take a look at them in detail.

1. Look at the tip of the nose

There is one place to look at for patients with spleen deficiency, and that is the tip of the nose. The condition of the tip of the nose can indicate the development of the disease. In fact, the tip of a person's nose is not pointed, but has a small pit. With this small pit as the center, the surrounding area is the area that most obviously reflects the physiological functions and pathological changes of the spleen. When a person is seriously ill, for example, his face may turn blue and black, without any luster, but as long as the tip of his nose is bright and moist, it means that his spleen and stomach are still functioning, and he can still eat and take medicine, so he can be saved. As the saying goes, "If there is stomach qi, you will live, and if there is no stomach qi, you will die." In addition, if yellow appears on the face instead of other illness colors when you are sick, for example, from black to yellow, and becomes bright and moist, it means that the spleen and stomach have recovered and the condition has taken a turn for the better.

2. Look at the face

Yellow skin is an important characteristic of us Chinese. However, there is normal yellow and pathological yellow. Normal yellow should be bright, moist, subtle, and mixed with red. If yellow is too much, not enough, or the only color is yellow, or it appears with other colors such as blue and black, then it is a sick color. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that when the color of the skin appears yellow, the first thing to consider is a problem with the spleen and stomach.

The spleen and stomach are responsible for transporting and transforming food and water. After people eat and drink, the essence is digested and absorbed by the spleen and stomach and converted into qi and blood. Therefore, the spleen and stomach are the "source of qi and blood production." Once the spleen is defective, the body cannot achieve this conversion. The food and water that people eat cannot be transported and transformed normally, and cannot supply nutrition to the internal organs. As a result, the blood supply is reduced, and the result is that the face turns pale and yellow.

There are several types of yellow complexion. If a person has a weak spleen, his complexion will be pale yellow. If not treated in time, he will gradually become "chlorotic", with yellow cheeks, weight loss and withering. This is because the spleen's qi and body fluid are insufficient and cannot nourish the body.

The opposite of chlorosis is sallowness, which means the complexion is yellow and swollen. This symptom generally stems from two situations: one is that there is both spleen deficiency and dampness, and the other is the presence of parasites in the body.

Jaundice is much more serious than chlorosis and sallow obesity. Jaundice is a disease characterized by a single color that is too intense. Patients often have yellow faces, bodies, urine, and even the whites of their eyes. Many patients with liver diseases will develop jaundice, such as acute viral hepatitis, chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver cancer, etc.

3. Look at the lips

When we see a person's face is yellow, not too bright or moist, we can basically judge that this person has a spleen deficiency. At this time, you should also look at two places. One is the lips, especially the "four whites" around the lips, which is a circle of yellow and white hairless area around the mouth, about 1 mm wide. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the spleen opens up at the mouth, and the spleen's brilliance is in the lips and the four whites of the lips.

If the white spots on the lips are not obvious, then the spleen and stomach functions must have declined;

If the white part of the lips is particularly dry and yellow, it indicates that the spleen and stomach function is seriously declining;

If the whites of the lips turn black or blue, the person's life is in danger.
