What are the prescriptions for TCM to treat hemangioma?

Hemangioma is a common skin tissue disease. Hemangioma generally exists under the skin, and the size and location of hemangioma are uncertain. If the hemangioma is located in the neck, it will cause symptoms such as hoarseness and difficulty swallowing. Generally, the Western medicine treatments for hemangiomas are laser, surgery, etc. Today we will introduce to you the traditional Chinese medicine treatments for hemangiomas. Let’s learn about them together.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, the cause of hemangioma is mostly qi stagnation and blood stasis, or due to improper diet, spleen deficiency and dysfunction, water and moisture cannot be transformed, which gathers to form phlegm, and the phlegm stagnates in the blood vessels, where it combines with blood and qi to form a mass. The treatment of this disease mainly adopts the methods of promoting qi and soothing the liver, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, softening and dispersing nodules, but in the specific treatment of hemangioma, the emphasis should be distinguished between qi stagnation and blood stasis.

If the main problem is blood stasis, the following medicines should be used: antelope bone, buffalo horn, bezoar, red peony root for clearing away heat, cooling blood and relieving pain; bupleurum, yellow peel kernel, white bell needle, etc. for regulating qi and relieving depression; salvia miltiorrhiza and safflower for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis; fried pangolin, soapberry thorn, and Sichuan pepper for softening and dispersing nodules and moving through the meridians. If the main problem is qi stagnation, use the following medicines: bupleurum, turmeric, phellodendron chinense, and white jade needle to promote qi and relieve depression; salvia miltiorrhiza, safflower, trillium, curcuma, and rhubarb to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis; stir-fried pangolin, soapberry thorn, and Sichuan pepper to soften and disperse nodules, unblock meridians and relieve pain.

The disease is often caused by long-term congestion, and simply using methods to promote qi and blood circulation will not be effective. Therefore, when selecting medicinal materials, while using qi-promoting and blood-activating drugs, stir-fried pangolin, soapberry thorn, and Sichuan radix strychni are used to soften and disperse the nodules, dredge the meridians and relieve pain.

The above is the treatment plan for hemangioma with traditional Chinese medicine. It is necessary to understand the specific cause of hemangioma before prescribing medicine for treatment. Because hemangioma can cause complications, patients are advised to seek timely treatment when symptoms are discovered. In addition, they should pay more attention to their diet and avoid eating irritating foods.
