Another common cause is digestive system disease. Experts say that bad breath may be caused by indigestion, gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, and gastrointestinal metabolic disorders; stinky duck egg-like bad breath often occurs in pyloric obstruction and advanced gastric cancer.

In addition to these two common causes, some other diseases of the oral cavity's adjacent tissues, such as purulent tonsillitis and atrophic rhinitis, can produce purulent secretions and emit a foul odor; patients with diabetic ketoacidosis can exhale acetone-smelling gas; patients with uremia exhale the smell of rotten apples.
