Does taking Chinese medicine affect blood sugar?

Drinking Chinese medicine only has the effect of lowering blood sugar, but has no effect of increasing blood sugar. If a Chinese medicine practitioner feels that you have low blood sugar during pulse diagnosis, they will not add any Chinese herbal medicines to lower blood sugar. Chinese medicine is treated differently according to each person's physical condition. The reason why it has been popular for so many years and is still popular today is that Chinese medicine itself does not cause much harm to the body. Even if it does not cure the disease, it will not bring any burden to the body.

1. Does Chinese medicine have an effect on blood sugar?

Can traditional Chinese medicine lower blood sugar? This is a topic that has been debated for a long time and is also a question that many diabetic patients have. According to historical records and clinical verification, the answer is yes.

Traditional Chinese medicine often conducts a comprehensive analysis based on age, constitution, symptoms, complications, tongue and pulse patterns to identify the deficiency and excess of yin and yang in the internal organs (lungs, spleen, stomach, liver, and kidneys), replenish the deficiency and eliminate the excess, regulate qi, blood, yin and yang, and ultimately achieve a blood sugar-lowering effect. This is the wonder of traditional Chinese medicine.

Diabetic patients should be reminded that compared with Western medicine, Chinese medicine has a slower blood sugar lowering speed. However, the advantage of traditional Chinese medicine lies in holistic conditioning, paying attention to the individual differences of patients, harmonizing the human organs and balancing yin and yang, eliminating diabetes symptoms such as fatigue, numbness of the limbs, itchy skin, blurred vision, etc. in a short period of time, and improving the quality of life and prolonging life. Chinese and Western medicine each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Taking advantage of each other's strengths and making up for each other's weaknesses, and combining Chinese and Western medicine, will be more conducive to improving the treatment effect.

2. Chinese medicine with hypoglycemic effect

Coptis chinensis: The decoction has the effect of lowering blood sugar. Berberine extracted from the whole herb of Coptis chinensis can reduce body weight, significantly improve glucose tolerance, increase fat burning and reduce fat synthesis.

Astragalus: Astragalus polysaccharide has a bidirectional effect on regulating blood sugar. In clinical practice, Astragalus is often used in combination with yin-nourishing drugs such as Rehmannia glutinosa, Scrophularia ningpoensis, and Ophiopogon japonicus to treat diabetes.

3. Massage techniques for lowering blood sugar in traditional Chinese medicine

3.1. Push the Ren meridian. Massage method: Press close to the abdomen, and rub vigorously from the lower sternum to the Zhongji point (located one palm below the navel) for about 2 minutes.

3.2. Hold and shake your abdomen. Massage method: Cross your hands naturally, press the base of your palms on the Daheng points on both sides (located one palm horizontally on both sides of the navel), press the little fingers of both hands on the Guanyuan point (located four fingers below the navel), and press the fingers of both hands against the Zhongwan point (located one palm horizontally above the navel). After finding the position, gently press down on the abdomen for about 5 minutes.

3.3. Press and massage the Tianhu point. Massage method: Use your thumbs to press and rub the Tianshu points on both sides (located two fingers away from the navel) for about 1 minute each.

3.4. Rub the kidney points. Massage method: The location of the kidney point is near the waist on both sides. Use the base of both hands to rub the waist muscles on both sides including the kidney point from top to bottom for about 2 minutes.

Precautions for diabetes

1. Pay attention to your diet and eat only until you are 70% full for three meals a day. Do not eat too sweet food or spicy food. Bad habits such as smoking and drinking are strictly prohibited, because these will aggravate the condition of diabetes. Those who have the habit of smoking should quit smoking slowly within a year, and do not quit smoking all at once. Those who have been taking blood sugar-lowering western medicine for more than half a year should not stop taking it suddenly, as this will cause a sudden increase in blood sugar. Under the guidance of a doctor, you should slowly reduce the dosage until you stop taking it. In terms of diet, you should pay attention to eating coarse and fine grains together. It is recommended to eat foods with low or no sugar, such as pumpkin and oatmeal. But one thing must be made clear: no matter how good this thing is or how suitable it is for diabetics, do not consume it in excess.

2. Get enough sleep. In daily life, good sleep can maintain physical health, and we should pay attention to developing beneficial sleeping habits. For sleep time, people in their 30s should sleep for 8 hours, people between 40 and 50 years old should sleep for about 7 hours and 30 minutes, and people between 60 and 77 years old should sleep for 8 hours and 30 minutes. Avoid drinking coffee and tea before going to bed, drink less water, relax your mind and don't feel hungry.
