How to avoid scars after burns

Burns are relatively common in our daily life. They are very harmful to the skin and often form ugly scars. Timely treatment is required after the burn to minimize the problem of scars. First of all, we must pay attention to cleaning the skin, debride the wound in time, prevent infection, and prevent ulcers. During the recovery period, we must avoid excessive activity and friction.

How to avoid scars after burns

1. Pay attention to the cleanliness and hygiene of the skin on burn scars. When a burn wound is just healing, there is still a small amount of secretion and scab, at which time bacteria can easily multiply rapidly. In addition, the epidermis is thin and tender, and the structure and function are not perfect, so infection and ulceration are very likely to occur. During the recovery period of burn scars, they can be cleaned with a neutral detergent, and then treated with anti-scar drugs.

2. Avoid excessive friction and excessive activity. This is because the scar epidermis has an imperfect structure and function, making it more vulnerable to damage, and some inappropriate treatments may aggravate the damage. When applying anti-scar drugs, you should avoid massaging with excessive force or for too long, as this will cause the epidermis to separate from the fibrous plate layer and form blisters or blood blisters. Excessive movement of the joints will also cause the epidermis to loosen and separate, resulting in blisters.

3. If the burn is on the lower limbs, it is not advisable to get up and move around too early. This is because the scar epidermis is weak, and the underlying vascular structure and function are imperfect, unable to resist the internal pressure of gravity. When standing, the wound surface of the lower limbs will turn purple or even bleed due to ruptured capillaries, which will aggravate scar hyperplasia and is not conducive to the recovery of burn scars. Therefore, it is not advisable to get out of bed and move around too early. The more appropriate time is generally around 3 months. It is also best to use a pressure sleeve for protection before going to the ground, which can reduce scar congestion.

4. Blisters should be drained in time to avoid infection and ulcer formation. When burn scars are healing, the new epidermis is prone to loosening and forming blisters due to various stimuli. If the blisters are not treated promptly and correctly, they often become infected and form ulcers. Anti-scar treatment should generally be implemented after the blisters have subsided and the ulcers have healed.

Precautions

1: Wait patiently for the scar to heal

After the burn scar is repaired, you must wait patiently for the wound to heal. When the scar scabs over, it will fall off automatically, so there is no need to worry too much.

2: Don’t grab with your hands

When the wound heals, the scar will feel a little itchy. Be sure to endure it and do not scratch the scar with your hands. Otherwise, after the scar heals, the scar will still exist and may cause inflammation.

3: It is not advisable to get out of bed too early if the lower limbs are burned

If your lower limbs are burned, remember not to get up and move around too early. Because the scar's epidermis is weak and the structure and function of the blood vessels are not perfect, getting up and moving around can easily cause bleeding, which will aggravate the proliferation of the scar.

4: Pay attention to skin cleanliness

After the burn scar is repaired, there will still be a small amount of secretions and scabs, which can easily allow bacteria to invade and cause infection and other problems. Therefore, after the scar is repaired, it is important to keep the scar clean.
