A small abscess on the genitals

A small abscess on the genitals

Many people often feel itching in the genital system because of the hot summer weather. When observing carefully, they will find some small pustules on it. In fact, this situation is mainly caused by inflammation. Because balanitis is the most common in summer, most of them are caused by not paying attention to cleanliness and the hot weather. It can usually be treated with some anti-inflammatory drugs, but the bacterial source must be found.

Causes of balanitis

The onset of balanitis is closely related to foreskin being too long. Balanitis can also be caused by some non-infectious and infectious factors.

1. Non-infectious factors

It includes local trauma, friction, contraceptives, soaps and detergents and other irritations, which may manifest locally as edema, erythema, erosion, exudation and even bleeding. If secondary bacterial infection occurs, it may become purulent and form an ulcer surface. The patient has obvious pain and difficulty in moving. It is clinically called acute superficial balanitis.

2. Candida infection

Candida is a conditionally pathogenic fungus, so candidal balanitis often occurs secondary to diabetes, senile wasting diseases, and large-scale antibiotic or hormone treatment. It can also be primary, mostly transmitted from a spouse's candidal vaginitis. There may be light red erosions and thin-walled pustules on the glans and coronal sulcus, but Candida is often not found locally, which may be caused by a local allergic reaction caused by Candida.

3. Amoeba infection

Most patients first have balanitis lesions, which cause the local area to lose its normal barrier function, and then are infected by intestinal amoebiasis. Local erosion, ulceration, and tissue necrosis are obvious, and amoeba can be found in direct smears of secretions.

4. Trichomonas infection

Most of the cases are caused by the spouse suffering from trichomoniasis. The symptoms are relatively mild, mainly manifested as erythematous papules and small blisters on the glans penis. Patients often feel itchy, and Trichomonas can be found in the secretions.

How to treat balanitis

Balanitis requires symptomatic treatment targeted at the cause. The basic principle of Western medicine in treating balanitis is to reduce inflammation and kill bacteria, and to treat both internally and externally.

1. Symptomatic treatment: Keep the affected area clean and avoid various irritations. Those with prepuce that is too long should undergo circumcision.

2. Local treatment: If the affected area shows erosion, exudation or purulent secretions, apply medicine or ointment to relieve the symptoms.

3. Etiological treatment: If the cause is clear, appropriate drug treatment should be given. For example, for candidal balanitis, you can apply topical nystatin cream, clotrimazole, econazole, miconazole cream, or take oral antifungal drugs. Metronidazole, tinidazole, and trichostatin can be used to treat trichomoniasis. For amebic balanitis, give emetine, metronidazole, and tinidazole. If your spouse also suffers from candidal or trichomoniasis, they should be treated at the same time.

When using drugs to treat balanitis, if the inflammation has developed for a period of time, it is best to cooperate with infusion treatment to prevent further aggravation of the inflammation and cause erosion or pus discharge. It should be noted that even if the balanitis condition improves, it does not mean that the inflammation will not recur. Therefore, it is recommended that patients undergo negative circumcision if necessary, which can effectively prevent balanitis.
