The “Four General Acupoints Song” also records “For abdomen, seek Sanli; for waist and back, seek Weizhong; for head and neck, look for Lieque; for face and mouth, look for Hegu”. It summarizes the functions and indications of the four acupoints, Zusanli, Weizhong, Lieque and Hegu, in an easy-to-understand way. It covers almost the entire body, from the head and face to the neck, from the back to the abdomen. How? No limbs included? These bloods are all on the limbs, so the introduction of the limbs is omitted.

Zusanli

Location: On the anterior and lateral side of the calf, three inches below the depression on the outside of the knee (outer knee pit) (about three inches when four fingers are put together), and one horizontal finger on the outside of the tibia.

The "Four General Acupoints Song" says "Zusanli Point in the abdomen and stomach". The stomach meridian is a meridian with much qi and blood, and Zusanli Point is its "He Point". Qi and blood gather here, and the qi and blood are vigorous. It has the effects of strengthening the body, nourishing the essence, strengthening the spleen and stomach, regulating yin and yang, and dredge meridians and activate collaterals for all diseases of the digestive system such as spleen and stomach disorders. Massaging Zusanli will have a very significant effect. Acupuncture at Zusanli can enhance gastrointestinal function and has a bidirectional regulatory effect on white blood cells, platelets, etc. Acupuncture or massage of this point can prevent colds, gastrointestinal diseases and stroke, and can also maintain health and longevity.

Weizhong

Location: Midpoint of the popliteal fossa transverse line, between the biceps femoris tendon and the semitendinosus tendon.

"Seek treatment of low back pain in Weizhong" means that all low back diseases can be treated by taking Weizhong. Weizhong is the He point of the Bladder Meridian of Foot-Taiyang. The Foot-Taiyang descends on the surface, and the Foot-Shaoyin ascends on the inner layer. The Qi of the Kidney Meridian and the Bladder Meridian meet here. This point can be used for both virtual and real low back pain. It has the effects of relaxing muscles and tendons, dredging collaterals, dispersing blood stasis and relieving pain. Especially for the elderly suffering from back pain and knee joint mobility disorders, the best effect is achieved by massaging and moxibustion on the Zusanli point.

Note: Weizhong is a "Xi point" in the blood and can only be treated with pricking, bloodletting, acupuncture, and massage. Moxibustion should not be used.

Lieque

Location: 1.5 inches above the transverse wrist crease, between the brachioradialis and abductor pollicis longus tendons.

The "Four General Acupoints Song" says: "Take Lieque for the head and neck." Lieque point is a collateral point of the hand Taiyin Lung Meridian. It is also a meeting point of eight meridians and connects to the Ren meridian of the eight extraordinary meridians. The Qi of the Lung Meridian passes through the Yangming meridian and reaches the brain. Acupuncture and massage of the Lieque point is not only good for treating migraine, but also can dredge the Qi and blood in the neck meridians, which can quickly relieve neck pain and cold symptoms.

Hegu

Location: Dorsa of hand, between the first and second metacarpal bones, at the midpoint of the radial side of the second metacarpal bone.

In the Song of Four General Acupoints, it is said that “the face and mouth are controlled by Hegu”, and Hegu acupoint has the function of treating all diseases of the face, mouth and five sense organs. Hegu point can enhance the body's immunity, and has the effects of clearing away heat, promoting yang energy, and supporting positive energy. It is a special acupoint for relieving pain, especially for treating headaches and toothaches. Just rubbing this point can relieve the pain. Use your right hand to vigorously rub the Hegu point on your left hand, then change hands and use your left hand to vigorously rub the Hegu point on your right hand.
