The boy got this disease when he was young, and he couldn't be a father when he grew up

A young couple, both highly educated, had been in a love marathon for seven years. After getting married, they considered having children. As a result, no contraceptive measures were taken for two years and no information was obtained. After going to the hospital for a check-up, it was found that he had almost no sperm. They were confused because he had a good lifestyle, didn't smoke or drink, and liked to exercise.

Song Yanxin, chief physician of the Institute of Andrology at Luoyang Women and Children's Health Care Center, said that fertility is indeed related to lifestyle, but lifestyle is only one of the influencing factors. For some infertile patients, the loss of fertility may be related to some diseases suffered in childhood.

Mumps

It is common in children and adolescents, and is generally characterized by significant swelling of the parotid glands, accompanied by fever. Whether it is the onset period or the recovery period, it may endanger the function of the testicles. However, because children and teenagers are playful and lively, they usually ignore the condition or think it has improved. In fact, after mumps occurs, it will directly attack the testicles, causing orchitis, attacking the testicular tissue, especially the seminiferous tubules that produce sperm.

In addition, they are in adolescence and are shy about privacy issues. They are embarrassed to talk to their parents and even buy antipyretic drugs themselves. By the time they discover the problem, it has actually lasted for a long time.

According to relevant statistics, among male infertility patients, about 14% are caused by testicular spermatogenesis dysfunction, most of which are caused by mumps complicated with orchitis. For infertile patients, if doctors trace the medical history, they often find the shadow of mumps and orchitis.

Cryptorchidism

In simple terms, the testicles are not where they should be, but are hidden. Cryptorchidism refers to the failure of one or both testicles to descend from the retroperitoneum to the ipsilateral scrotum according to the normal development process, but to remain in an abnormal position (abdominal cavity, groin, etc.). Since the temperature in the abnormal position is higher than that of the scrotum, the spermatogenesis function of the testicles may be impaired. Generally, the testicles of babies descend into the scrotum after birth. Even if some babies' testicles do not descend into the scrotum after birth, most of them will descend within three months. If the testicle has not descended into the scrotum within three months after birth, it should be taken seriously. If it has not descended into the scrotum on the same side within six months after birth, treatment is required, and some may require surgical treatment. Because cryptorchidism may not have any symptoms, parents should pay special attention.

Varicocele

Many people have heard of varicose veins in the legs and may know their dangers, but they are not familiar with varicocele. In fact, the difference is the location of varicose veins. Varicocele refers to the obstruction of venous return of the spermatic cord, valve failure, and blood reflux causing blood stasis, leading to expansion, elongation, and tortuosity of the racemose venous plexus. Varicocele may have no obvious symptoms and can be easily ignored. However, clinical studies show that many infertile men suffer from this disease.

Other diseases, such as Klinefelter's syndrome, are manifested by the male's secondary sexual characteristics (such as Adam's apple, beard, etc.) are not obvious, and men only go to the hospital for treatment when they encounter fertility problems.
