As we age, a lot of garbage will accumulate in our blood vessels, just like water pipes that have fallen into disrepair and contain a lot of impurities. These wastes will accumulate and form plaques. If they are not cleaned in time, the plaques will grow larger and larger, making our blood vessels increasingly narrow and affecting blood supply. Carotid artery stenosis is the most dangerous! Where is the most dangerous place for garbage to accumulate in the blood vessels, causing them to narrow and become blocked? A type of arterial stenosis that has not yet received our full attention has become the most dangerous vascular stenosis. This is carotid stenosis! Years of large-scale population surveys and studies have found that in recent years, the leading cause of death among Chinese residents is cerebral infarction (stroke), of which about 90% are due to cerebral ischemia or cerebral vascular obstruction, and half of them are related to carotid artery stenosis. Therefore, strokes caused by carotid artery stenosis account for about 45% of the total, including lacunar cerebral infarction, focal cerebral infarction, large-area cerebral infarction, transient ischemic attack, etc. There are four major dangers of carotid artery stenosis that you must know! 1. Dizziness, difficulty moving, blurred vision If carotid artery plaque grows unevenly, it may break apart and produce debris. After these fragments fall off, they float into the brain with the blood flow, where they can block peripheral blood vessels and cause ischemia or even necrosis of a small area of brain tissue. The blood vessels blocked by tiny debris are relatively thin, so the area of brain tissue ischemia caused is very small, and may even be asymptomatic. Of course, most of the manifestations are short-term dizziness, difficulty in movement, blurred vision, etc. 2Causes stroke and can even be fatal! Clinically, nearly half of strokes are caused by carotid artery stenosis and plaque detachment. This is because if the debris of the carotid plaque blocks a thicker blood vessel, the area of necrotic tissue in the brain will be larger, which may lead to a true cerebral infarction and various symptoms of stroke or stroke: Such as dizziness, fainting, weakness, falls, hemiplegia, aphasia, hemianopsia, balance disorders, cognitive disorders, incontinence, movement disorders, etc. In severe cases, there are sequelae and even life-threatening situations. 3Complications of thrombosis may cause acute cerebral infarction! In a small number of patients, thrombosis may occur at the stenotic site of the carotid artery, suddenly blocking blood flow, or the thrombus may break off and block blood flow to the distal brain, causing acute cerebral infarction and leading to stroke or cerebral infarction. 4Cause hearing and vision loss Hearing loss is also a dangerous sign of stroke. Unfortunately, many doctors don’t know this. In addition, the artery that supplies blood to the eyes is a branch of the carotid artery. Carotid artery stenosis and plaques can directly lead to insufficient blood and oxygen supply to the retina, causing visual impairment in one or both eyes, which can progressively worsen. |
