What causes long-term sore throat?

Although sore throat is a common symptom in our daily life, long-term sore throat can cause us great pain. If we do not intensify treatment, it may also cause us other diseases. Therefore, we must pay great attention to long-term sore throat. Generally speaking, sore throat may be caused by a cold, which can be cured by taking some anti-inflammatory drugs or infusions. However, if it does not improve for a long time or worsens, we should intensify diagnosis and treatment to prevent the generation of other diseases. So let’s talk about what causes long-term sore throat today?

1. Overview

Sore throat (dry and painful throat, foreign body sensation, acute or chronic):

Use green tea leaves to make strong tea with about 2 taels of water, add half a tael of honey and stir well. Gargle several times a day and swallow slowly. Take one dose a day for 3-5 days to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, moisten the throat, and treat acute and chronic pharyngitis. Avoid smoking, drinking and any irritating food.

2. Treatment

(1) Bloodletting

Bleeding from the tip of the ear, alternating between the two ears, once a day, has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and is suitable for various acute and chronic throat diseases.

(2) Hand rubbing therapy

The base of the thumb is medically known as the thenar eminence. The thenar eminence is rich in muscles, which protrude noticeably when the palm is stretched out and occupy a large area of the palm. The thenar eminence is closely related to the respiratory organs. Rubbing it every day is very beneficial for preventing and treating colds. It can also eliminate symptoms such as sore throat, sneezing, clear runny nose, nasal congestion, and cough. The method is very simple. Rub the thenar of your hands together until they are warm. Keep one hand fixed and rotate the thenar of the other hand like rubbing peanut skins, alternating between the two hands up and down. Rub the two thenars in opposite directions for about 2 to 3 minutes, and the entire palm will become warm. Doing so can promote blood circulation and strengthen the body's metabolism, thereby enhancing physical fitness and preventing and treating colds, sore throats, etc.

(3) Hot steam inhalation therapy

Inhaling hot steam can improve dry and itchy throat and irritating cough. A simple method is: boil water in a kettle, let the patient open his mouth and slowly inhale the steam. If conditions permit, add a little pressing oil to the boiling water and inhale it, which will be more effective.

3. Prevention

(1) Maintaining appropriate indoor temperature and humidity and fresh air is an effective measure to prevent and treat chronic pharyngitis. Dry indoor air and excessive cooling, heating or humidity can affect the defense function of the pharyngeal mucosa, causing functional disorders and abnormal sensation in the pharynx, which can eventually lead to chronic pharyngitis. Rinse your mouth and brush your teeth in the morning, after meals and before going to bed to keep your mouth clean. At the same time, preventing and treating oral and nasal diseases and eliminating inflammatory lesions cannot be ignored in the prevention and treatment of pharyngitis.

(2) Adjust your diet and eat light, easily digestible food, supplemented with some refreshing, heat-removing, tender and juicy foods. Such as oranges, tangerines, pineapples, sugar cane, olives, pears, apples, etc., or drink more water and cool drinks, but the drinks should not be too strong. Avoid tobacco, alcohol, ginger, pepper, mustard, garlic and all spicy foods.

(3) Qigong therapy for pharyngitis: Sit quietly, place your hands lightly on your thighs, close your eyes slightly, put your tongue against the roof of your mouth, calm your mind, breathe naturally, focus your mind on your throat, accumulate saliva in your mouth, and swallow it slowly when your mouth is full. Do this for 15-20 minutes. Then slowly open your eyes, and gently rub your throat with the thumb and other four fingers of one hand. Breathe naturally and focus your mind on your hands. When your mouth is full of saliva, swallow it slowly. Do this for 5-7 minutes. Practice 2-3 times a day, 15-30 minutes each time.
