Symptoms of periodontitis

Symptoms of periodontitis

Not paying attention to oral hygiene, not brushing your teeth and rinsing your mouth in time after eating sweets, not washing your teeth regularly leading to tartar accumulation, etc. These bad living habits may cause problems with your teeth and lead to periodontitis. Once you suffer from periodontitis, once the disease attacks, you will be in so much pain that you can't even eat. That is why periodontitis requires timely treatment.

However, if people have toothache, they usually think it is inflammation caused by getting angry, so they just take some anti-inflammatory medicine, but they don’t think that it is actually caused by periodontitis. The reason is that they don’t understand the symptoms of periodontitis.

The early symptoms of periodontitis are not obvious, and patients often only have secondary gingival bleeding or bad breath, which are similar to the symptoms of gingivitis. During examination, the gingival margin, gingival papilla and attached gingiva may be swollen, soft, dark red or dark red in color, and easily bleed upon probing. As the inflammation spreads further, the following symptoms may appear:

1. Periodontal pocket formation

As inflammation spreads, the periodontal membrane is destroyed, the alveolar bone is gradually absorbed, the gums separate from the tooth roots, the gingival sulcus deepens, and a periodontal pocket is formed. The depth of periodontal pockets can be measured with a probe.

2. Periodontal suppuration

Ulcers and inflammatory granulation tissue are formed on the wall of the periodontal pocket, and purulent secretions are retained in the pocket, so if the gums are pressed lightly, pus can be seen. And often have bad breath.

3. Loose teeth

Due to the destruction of periodontal tissue, especially when the absorption of alveolar bone is aggravated, the strength supporting the teeth is insufficient, resulting in loose teeth and displacement. At this time, patients often feel weak bite, dull pain, and worsening gum bleeding and bad breath. When the body's resistance is reduced and the drainage of periodontal pocket exudate is poor, periodontal abscess may form. It is a common concomitant symptom of deep periodontal pockets when periodontitis develops to the late stage.

After knowing the symptoms of periodontitis, if you find that you have developed periodontitis, it is recommended that you seek treatment in time to avoid the pain caused by periodontitis. In order to keep our teeth healthier, we recommend that you pay attention to oral hygiene and develop the habit of brushing your teeth twice a day.
