Gout is a very painful disease and it cannot be cured overnight. Gout is hereditary, but some bad living habits can also cause gout. So what are the general dangers of gout? 1. Joint disability Repeated attacks lead to chronic gouty arthritis, which in turn causes attacks to become more frequent and the intervals between attacks to become shorter. The pain gradually intensifies, and the most commonly affected joints are the knees, ankles, and elbows. In severe cases, it can affect the shoulders, hips, and spine, which can easily induce joint damage and deformity, leading to joint disability. 2. Hypertension Gout can cause high blood pressure in patients. Generally, gout patients are relatively fat. Excessive accumulation of fat in the body can easily lead to arteriosclerosis and cause high blood pressure. Also, because gout patients tend to consume high-fat, high-calorie foods in their daily diet, the fat content in their bodies is very high, which can easily lead to high cholesterol. 3. Diabetes Gout can also cause high blood sugar, and in severe cases it can lead to diabetes. Diabetes is caused by the lack of insulin hormone that regulates blood sugar, which causes the body to be in a state of persistent high blood sugar. Patients with high uric acid levels usually also have higher blood sugar levels. 4. Damage to the kidneys Urate deposition in the kidneys causes renal disease, which manifests in three forms: chronic uric acid (uric acid nephropathy, gouty nephropathy, gouty interstitial nephritis), acute uric acid nephropathy (renal tubular uric acid deposition), and uric acid kidney stone formation. According to WHO statistics, 1/4 of gout patients will experience renal failure and develop severe uremia. 5. Gout stones The formation of tophi is the result of tissue damage caused by long-term hyperuricemia and is a characteristic lesion of gout. It is deposited in the joint capsule, affecting joint movement. It can cause "punch-hole"-like damage to the bone and, in severe cases, can lead to fractures. Joint dislocation and deformity; after tophi rupture, they are difficult to heal and can easily lead to the tragedy of amputation. 6. Life-threatening 50% of gout patients have hypertension, and 30% of gout patients have diabetes. 70% of gout patients have dyslipidemia, and 75% of gout patients have obesity. The risk of coronary heart disease in gout patients is twice that of non-gout patients, and it is considered to be coronary heart disease. An independent risk factor for arteriosclerosis, which can induce acute myocardial infarction and be life-threatening. |
