Common symptoms and care tips for idiopathic facial nerve palsy

Facial neuritis has caused trouble to many patients. Facing the spectacular scenery of "ten miles of plum blossoms and fragrant snow sea", how can one take beautiful photos with such an image? So what are the symptoms of idiopathic facial neuritis?

Common symptoms

Paralysis of facial expression muscles, disappearance of forehead wrinkles, inability to frown, inability to close or incomplete closure of palpebral fissures

Close both eyes and turn them outward and upward to expose the white sclera;

The corner of the mouth is tilted towards the healthy side;

Inflate, whistle and leak air;

Food is easily retained in the gums on the affected side, etc.

Accompanied by facial or external auditory canal herpes, trigeminal nerve paresthesia; regional lymphadenopathy; anhidrosis on the ipsilateral face; encephalitis; sympathetic ganglion involvement, including Horner syndrome; cervical sensory impairment; and limb motor involvement.

Treatment with medication 1. In the acute phase, the main focus is on improving local circulation, eliminating inflammation and edema, and using hormones and B vitamins in the early stages.

2. During the recovery period, the focus is on promoting recovery of nerve function, combined with acupuncture and physical therapy.

Daily care tips

1. Take good care of your eyes. For eyes that cannot be closed, apply eye drops regularly. Apply eye ointment before going to bed at night to protect the conjunctiva and avoid dryness or dust.

2. Advise the patient to rest, do not wash face with cold water, wear a mask, avoid direct wind, and avoid cold.

3. Teach the patient how to exercise themselves: For self-massage, you can massage the affected side according to the muscles of the healthy side. The massage force should be soft, moderate and continuous. It can be done once in the morning and evening. Facial expression and movement training: frowning, closing eyes, whistling, showing teeth, etc. in front of the mirror, 2-3 times a day.

4. Apply a warm and wet towel to your face to improve blood circulation, 2-3 times a day. It is best to perform the above self-training method 10 days after onset of the disease.
