The sequelae of facial nerve paralysis are the three most significant

Facial nerve paralysis is very common in clinical practice. Generally speaking, after people suffer from facial paralysis, they are likely to have related sequelae. So, what are the sequelae of facial nerve paralysis?

First, facial muscle joint exercise

For some patients with sequelae of facial paralysis, their eyes will become smaller as they close when they puff their cheeks, suck, open their mouths, etc. When they close their eyes, the corners of their mouths will also be pulled and closed. This is called joint movement of the facial muscles. This is one of the common sequelae of facial paralysis, which is mainly caused by poor myelin recovery after the facial nerve is damaged. After the nerve is completely repaired through medication, this symptom will disappear.

Second, crocodile tears syndrome

Some patients with facial paralysis will shed tears when eating food weeks or months after the onset of facial paralysis. Even when they see or think of delicious food, patients with facial paralysis sequelae will have tears in their eyes. This common sequelae of facial paralysis is called crocodile tears syndrome.

Third, other sequelae

If patients with facial paralysis do not receive timely treatment for facial paralysis, or if the treatment method is incorrect or misdiagnosis occurs, the patient may suffer from sequelae. In addition to the two common sequelae of facial paralysis mentioned above, the patient's condition will worsen and the symptoms will become more obvious, seriously affecting the progress of subsequent treatment.
