Teach you how to measure your pulse in one minute

The pulse is the pulsation of the arteries in our body. A normal person's pulse and heartbeat are the same. So, we estimate the number of heart beats by measuring the number of pulse beats. So how do you measure your pulse?

Methods/Steps

First, place our arms comfortably on the table. Of course, you don't have to put it on the table, you can also put it on your lap, as long as it is convenient for measurement.

Second, press your index and middle fingers on the radial artery with moderate force just enough to feel the pulse. Please refer to the pictures below.

Third, we can measure for 30 seconds, and then multiply the measured pulse beats by 2, which is the number of pulse beats in one minute. Generally, the pulse beats for adults is 60-100 beats/minute.

Fourth, the pulse rate we measure will be higher when we are nervous, exercising vigorously, crying, etc. We can wait until we calm down for a while before measuring it, which can better reflect our pulse rate in a quiet state.

Fifth, for patients with weak pulse, two people are required to measure it, that is, one person measures the pulse and the other listens to the heart rate, and they measure simultaneously for 1 minute. This requires professionals to operate, and we ordinary people just need to understand it.

Correct understanding

The pulse rate varies greatly due to age, gender, and disease. Once we learn to measure our pulse, it is best if it is within the normal range. If you find that it is not within the normal range, don't panic, because tension can also affect the pulse rate. You can measure it again. If you are not sure, you can consult a professional. Don't scare yourself.

Learn to take your own pulse:

Pulse: refers to the pulsation of the arteries caused by changes in intravascular pressure and volume during the cardiac cycle.

Under normal circumstances, the rhythm of the pulse is consistent with the number of heart beats, and the rhythm of the pulse is consistent with the rhythm of the heart beats. By checking your pulse you can tell how your heart is beating. Under pathological conditions, the pulse rate and rhythm may be inconsistent with the heart rate and rhythm.

Under normal circumstances, the pulse rate varies with age, physiological changes, physical activity, mood, and pregnancy status. The younger you are, the faster your pulse rate. The heart rate for newborns can reach 120-130 times/minute, for infants and young children it is 100-130 times/minute, for preschool children it is 80-100 times/minute, and after adolescence it is close to that of adults, with adults mostly at 70-80 times/minute, and the elderly are lower, at 55-60 times/minute. Athletes also have lower levels than the general population.

Check the pulse by palpation or pulsotrioneurography. The most commonly used method is palpation, which is to touch the pulsation of an artery that is located in a superficial part of the body, is of sufficient length, and has solid tissue underneath. The radial artery, located on the palm side of the wrist close to the thumb, is the most convenient to palpate and is therefore often used.

To measure your pulse, you need a watch with a second hand. Let the subjects take a short rest and keep calm. The accuracy of measurement will be affected after drinking alcohol, just drinking hot water, when you are emotionally excited, or just finished sports. After strenuous activity, you should rest for 20 minutes before testing again.

The radial pulse is checked while the person is sitting or lying down with their hand facing up and their wrist straight. The examiner puts his index finger, middle finger and ring finger together and places the fingertips on the radial artery of the subject's wrist. At this time, the examiner's fingers can feel the pulsation of the subject's artery.

The amount of pressure applied by the examiner's fingers on the examinee's radial artery should be enough to clearly feel the pulse. The examiner then counts the number of pulse beats within one minute, or multiplies the pulse count in half a minute by two. Sometimes the pulse count in 15 seconds can also be multiplied by four. Calculate your pulse beats per minute.

When measuring the pulse, you should pay attention to the rhythm and strength of the pulse, such as whether the interval between each two beats is fast or slow, whether there is arrhythmia, and whether the pulse is strong or weak.
