What are the symptoms of facial paralysis?

The symptom of facial paralysis is not limited by age, and people of any age may suffer from this disease. The early symptoms of facial paralysis are not very obvious. They may be eyelid tremors, blinking movements, etc., which are difficult to be discovered by outsiders, which requires patients to observe carefully.

1. One of the early symptoms of facial paralysis is blinking. Careful observation of the patient's blinking can reveal asymmetric bilateral blinking movements, which is also an early symptom of facial nerve disease. This phenomenon is of great significance. If the patient is asked to blink, the blinking movement will be slow and incomplete on the mildly paralyzed side.

2. One of the early symptoms of facial paralysis is eyelid tremor , which is also an early symptom of facial nerve: close both eyes forcefully, and the examiner pulls the closed upper eyelids hard. At this time, a slight muscle contracture tremor is felt on one side of the upper eyelid, but not on the other side. The presence of this facial nerve symptom indicates mild facial nerve paralysis, which is more common in peripheral facial nerve paralysis.

3. The third symptom of the early stage of facial paralysis is the eyelash sign : ask the patient to close his eyes forcefully. When a normal person closes his eyes forcefully, his eyelashes are mostly buried in the upper and lower eyelids. When the facial nerve is paralyzed, the eyelashes are exposed, especially in the case of mild paralysis. If you close your eyes tightly, the asymmetry of the eyelashes is not obvious at first, but after a short period of time, the eyelashes on the mildly paralyzed side will slowly become visible. This is called a positive eyelash sign.

Note:

Facial care: Patients should pay more attention to keeping their face warm, use warm water to wash their face, wear scarves and masks when going out, pay attention to wind and cold protection, avoid placing the affected side close to air conditioners or fans, or sitting or sleeping in window gaps for a long time. Especially when riding in a car, do not lower the windows to avoid aggravating the condition due to cold.
