Sciatica sleeping posture, you should sleep like this

Proper sleeping posture can also help patients relieve sciatica. Sleeping on your back can allow the waist to get sufficient rest, sleeping on your side can reduce the pressure on the spine, and sleeping on your stomach can reduce the pressure on the lumbar spine. You can choose according to your preferences.

First: Sleeping on your back is the sleeping position that most people are accustomed to, and it can indeed allow the waist to get sufficient rest. However, if you suffer from sciatica or a herniated disc, you will feel uncomfortable after sleeping on your back for a while. This is because the lumbar spine cannot bend naturally. Therefore, patients like this may put a pillow under their knees when sleeping on their backs, which can greatly reduce pain and discomfort.

Second: Sleeping on your side is a more ideal sleeping position because the spine becomes arched when you sleep on your side, the muscles relax, and the pressure on the spine is relatively reduced. However, when sleeping on your side, your whole body weight is supported by your shoulders and pelvis, which can easily compress your blood circulation and cause soreness, numbness and pain in your arms. When sleeping on your side, place a pillow between your legs for added comfort.

Third: Sleeping on your stomach can reduce the pressure on the lumbar spine and feel more comfortable, so many patients with low back pain will adopt the prone sleeping position. However, the spine of patients with spondylolisthesis is not suitable for excessive extension, so it is best not to sleep on their stomachs. They can sleep on their backs and tie a large rolled towel behind their waists, which can greatly reduce the burden on the spine.

Precautions

The above is a summary of various sleeping positions for sciatica. Therefore, if you often feel sciatica, you should adopt these sleeping positions. This will not compress the nerves, thereby aggravating the condition and making the patient's pain more severe.
