How to treat joint sprains

How to treat joint sprains

Joint sprains are also common in life. Once they occur, you must pay attention to the correct treatment. You can apply ice to the sprained part, and it is better to use alternating hot and cold hydrotherapy to treat it, which can also relieve pain.

1. Ice compress: Put crushed ice or ice water in a plastic bag and apply it to the injured area for 20 minutes every 4 hours when you are awake.

2. Elevate : When you don't need to move it, elevate the injured ankle joint, at least higher than the waist to be effective.

Compression: Wrap the injured part with an elastic bandage, not too loose or too tight. If it is too loose, it will be ineffective and easy to fall off. If it is too tight, the toes will swell and become numb, and blood circulation will be impeded.

3. Use a cane : Use a cane to help you walk. The injured foot can be completely off the ground, or it can be slightly on the ground to support your weight within a painless range. However, you should not land on your toes first, because this will easily cause an inversion sprain when the sole of the foot is facing downward. You must land on your heel first, just like walking normally, and then the entire sole of the foot.

Hydrotherapy:

4. Use 'hot and cold alternating hydrotherapy', the method is as follows:

First, soak the affected area in 38-40 degrees Celsius and move it within the pain-free range for 4-6 minutes. Immediately immerse in cold water at 10-16 degrees Celsius for 1-2 minutes. Return to hot water and move around (as described in 1). Do this alternating hot and cold mode 5 times each.

The last soak is in hot water. After completion, elevate the affected area, move around for 5 minutes, and then tie an elastic bandage. The above 1-6 is a complete (alternating hot and cold hydrotherapy). After doing it 2-3 times a day, the swelling can be completely eliminated in about 1-2 weeks.
