Treatment of viral myocarditis is mainly based on Western medicine

Viral myocarditis is a disease caused by untreated cold and fever. Timely treatment is required, otherwise it may cause serious complications such as heart failure. Both Chinese and Western medicine have treatment methods. Although Chinese medicine is more thorough, it is slower, so Western medicine is currently the main treatment method.

1. In the acute phase, the treatment is mainly based on the use of free radical scavengers such as vitamin C, supplemented by antiviral treatment. The chronic stage is mainly characterized by autoimmune damage and heart failure, so the main focus should be on improving heart function, and immunosuppressants may be added for refractory cases.

2. Anti-infection treatment

(1) Antiviral treatment: mainly used in the early stages of the disease.

① Ribavirin: 10-15 mg/kg/d, divided into 2 times for intramuscular injection or intravenous drip.

② Interferon: 15,000 to 25,000 U intramuscular injection, once a day, 5 to 10 days as a course of treatment, and the course can be repeated after 2 to 3 days.

③Anti-coxsackie injection: It is extracted from Sophora flavescens, which has low toxicity and significant resistance to Coxsackie B virus. It has now been made into an anti-coxsackie injection with a purity of 99.43%, which can significantly improve symptoms and signs.

(2) Antibacterial treatment: Penicillin is generally used for 1 to 2 weeks. In chronic myocarditis, attention should be paid to treating or clearing bacterial infection foci, such as chronic tonsillitis, chronic sinusitis, otitis media, etc.

3. Traditional Chinese medicine: 40g of Scutellaria baicalensis injection, intravenous drip, once a day, for 2 weeks. Taurine 2g/time, orally, 3 times/d, course of treatment 1 to 10 months. Chinese herbal medicines such as Isatis root, Forsythia suspensa, Folium Isatidis, Polygonum multiflorum, and Sophora flavescens may be effective against viral infections.

4. You should rest in bed as early as possible. During the acute phase, bed rest should not be less than 3 months. During the recovery phase (i.e. 6 to 9 months), you can transition to half-day bed rest in the afternoon. For those with an enlarged heart, bed rest should be extended until the cardiothoracic ratio approaches normal before starting planned activities. People with heart failure should stay in bed completely. Eat easily digestible and protein-rich foods.
