What diseases can high white blood cell count cause? Consequences of high white blood cell count

High white blood cell count is our body's little guard. If the white blood cell count is high, it means that there is inflammation in our body. The most common one is bacterial infection. Severely high white blood cell count is a precursor to leukemia. We should understand more about leukemia and seek treatment as early as possible.

Symptoms and signs

1. Symptoms caused by destruction of bone marrow hematopoietic function

(1) Bruising and punctate bleeding are prone to occur: This is caused by a decrease in the number of megakaryocytes that produce platelets, resulting in platelet deficiency;

(2) Anemia: The number of red blood cell mother cells decreases, resulting in a lack of red blood cells, which can easily cause shortness of breath and dizziness when walking or exercising;

(3) Continuous fever and prolonged infection: Most white blood cells are leukemia cells and do not function normally, resulting in decreased immunity and susceptibility to infection.

2. Symptoms caused by blood cancer cells infiltrating tissues

(1) Swollen lymph nodes;

(2) Bone pain or joint pain: This is caused by the massive proliferation of blood cancer cells in the bone marrow. Tapping the sternum of an acute lymphoblastic leukemia patient often causes severe pain. [2]

(3) Swelling of gums;

(4) Hepatosplenomegaly;

(5) Headache and vomiting: manifestations of blood cancer cells infiltrating into the central nervous system;

(6) Lumps appear on the skin: Because they appear slightly green, they are also called green tumors;

(7) Effusion of pericardium or pleural cavity.

3. Special manifestations of various types of leukemia

(1) Acute promyeloid leukemia: diffuse bleeding;

(2) Chronic myeloid leukemia: Most patients have increased platelet counts and enlarged spleen;

(3) Chronic lymphocytic leukemia: It rarely occurs in Chinese people and is more common in middle-aged and older people, especially the elderly.

(4) Acute lymphocytic leukemia: If it causes the thoracic lymph nodes to swell, it often compresses the trachea, causing shortness of breath and coughing;

(5) Adult T-cell lymphocytic leukemia: Due to high calcium ion levels in the blood, dehydration, unconsciousness, and coma may occur.
