What causes sunken eyelids?

There are many reasons for sunken eyelids, the most common of which is physiological reasons. We know that with age, the collagen in the skin will gradually decrease, and at this time, the symptom of sunken eyelids may occur. In addition, after double eyelid plastic surgery, if the surgery is not performed properly or the daily conditioning is not done properly, sunken eyelids may also occur. Therefore, after double eyelid surgery, you must emphasize maintenance to avoid this symptom.

What causes sunken eyelids? (1) Natural aging: As time goes by, the whole body begins to show signs of aging, with the face being the most visible and the eyes being the most susceptible to aging. The gradual reduction of subcutaneous tissue and aging of muscle fibers lead to the aging state of eyeball retraction and upper eyelid sunken, also known as the sunset phenomenon. As shown in the figure: (2) Reasons for surgery 1. When traditional surgical methods are used to correct sagging upper eyelid skin, excessive muscle and fat are removed at the same time as the skin, resulting in tissue defects and depression in the upper eyelid area after surgery.

2. The surgical process causes great damage, resulting in severe adhesion between the tarsal plate and the subcutaneous muscle tissue of the upper eyelid. When the eyes are opened, the tarsal plate and the adhesion tissue move upward, causing a local depression. For some people, this phenomenon is not obvious when looking straight ahead, but occurs when the eyes look upward.

Surgical method 1. If it is caused by skin aging or removal of too much muscle fat, it is necessary to correct the sagging skin and locally fill the depression with autologous fat to make it fuller. 2. If it is caused by surgical adhesion, it is necessary to loosen the adhesion and adjust the muscles before considering filling with fat tissue. Most people have problems such as high, deep, asymmetric, and scarring of the double eyelid line due to adhesion. Simple filling will not solve the problem, but will create more problems, requiring redesign and re-surgery to solve.
