The traumatic injury to the brain caused by a car accident is very serious. Many patients will experience sequelae of brain trauma during the recovery period. The most common ones are pain, irritability, and memory problems. Parents must take good care of the patients and resolve their doubts in a timely manner. 1. Clinical manifestations 1. Aphasia caused by brain trauma: Aphasia refers to the loss of language comprehension and expression ability caused by damage to the language center of the cerebral cortex. Language disorders can manifest in many forms. One person may lose only the ability to understand written language (alexia), while another may be unable to recall or name an object (anomia). Some people with anomia do not remember the correct name of an object, while others know the word but are unable to express it. Dysarthria is the inability to pronounce words clearly and accurately. 2. Agnosia due to brain trauma: Agnosia is a rare symptom in which a person can see or perceive an object but cannot associate it with the object's role and function. Agnosia occurs when a person cannot recognize familiar faces or common objects such as spoons or pencils, even though he or she can see and describe them. 3. Post-traumatic epilepsy: Post-traumatic epilepsy refers to epilepsy that occurs after brain trauma. Epileptic seizures are caused by abnormal discharges of brain neurons. 10% of patients with severe non-penetrating brain injuries and 40% of patients with penetrating brain injuries develop epilepsy, which may occur several years after the brain trauma. The type of seizure is related to the site where the abnormal discharge originates. 2. Nursing methods 1. Relieve doubts Most patients believe that their condition is very serious and have many concerns about their future life and work, doubting whether they can work and live normally. Explain brain trauma to patients from a medical perspective, and tell them sincerely that all tests are normal and that as long as they are in a good mood and cooperate with treatment, they will recover soon and be able to work, study and live like normal people. 2. Listen patiently There are more female patients with post-traumatic brain syndrome and their emotions are changeable. In view of this characteristic, experts suggest: we should listen carefully to their complaints, patiently explain the problems they raise, guide them to read some entertaining books, watch some happy TV programs, care for them in life, meet their reasonable demands, make them feel warm, and their emotions gradually stabilize. 3. Give encouragement Since most of these patients have no organic lesions and can do some very meticulous work when their emotions are stable, they should be given timely guidance so that they can correctly understand their condition, have an objective understanding of their physical and mental health status, and actively cooperate with treatment. |
