Is TCM effective in treating cerebral atrophy?

Traditional Chinese medicine treatment can effectively treat cerebral atrophy. The main methods include taking in appropriate amounts of trace elements, supplementing sufficient amounts of minerals, supplying sufficient essential fatty acids, etc., and also paying attention to a low-sugar diet.

(1) Proper intake of trace elements:

Geriatric medicine research has found that some minerals in the diet are closely related to the prevention and treatment of brain atrophy. For example, calcium can regulate the excitability of nerves and muscles, maintain normal heart function, and improve the cognitive ability of the elderly. Magnesium is a cofactor of various enzyme reactions. It works together with potassium, calcium and other elements to maintain the myocardium and prevent arteriosclerosis, thereby enhancing blood flow to the brain and helping to prevent the occurrence of cerebral atrophy.

(2) Supplement sufficient minerals:

Patients with cerebral atrophy can pay attention to supplementing their daily diet with seafood, edible fungi, beans and their products, fish, milk, sesame paste, various vegetables and fruits, so that the body can obtain sufficient minerals. When cooking various dishes, do not add too much MSG. Brain tissue converts glutamate into γ-aminotyric acid through enzymes. Excessive intake of MSG can cause symptoms such as headache and nausea.

(3) Provide sufficient essential fatty acids:

It is extremely important to provide sufficient essential fatty acids in the diet, as they are indispensable nutrients for the brain to maintain normal function. Walnuts, fish oil, safflower oil, and evening primrose oil contain high levels of essential fatty acids, which can be increased appropriately in the diet.

(4) Pay attention to low-sugar diet:

Because excessive intake of sugar, especially refined sugar, can easily cause brain disorders such as neurasthenia or neurasthenia.
