What Chinese medicine is effective for treating fever in the five senses?

Five Hearts and Minds Heat is a professional term in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the best way to treat Five Hearts and Minds Heat is to use traditional Chinese medicine. As for what Chinese medicine to take for the five kinds of restlessness and heat, it is best to receive targeted treatment. Different types of five-heart heat syndrome require different Chinese medicines, and during treatment, you should also pay attention to a light diet.

1. Yin deficiency

Treatment method: Nourish yin and clear heat.

Prescription: Dabuyin Pills (Danxi's Heart Method) combined with Qinggu Powder (Zhengzhi Zhunsheng) with modifications.

Medicine: 15g each of raw and cooked Rehmannia, 10g of Radix Angelicae Pubescentis, 10-15g of Rehmannia root bark. Roasted turtle shell 15g (pre-boiled), roasted tortoise shell 15g (pre-boiled), Anemarrhena asphodeloides 15g, Phellodendron chinense 6g. 10-15g of Baiwei.

Meaning of the prescription: Turtle shell, turtle shell, raw and cooked Rehmannia nourish Yin, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Phellodendron chinense, Cortex Moutan cools blood and purges fire, Phellodendron chinense and Radix Rehmanniae clear away deficiency and ripeness.

Add or subtract: For dry mouth, cough and shortness of breath caused by yin deficiency, add Ophiopogon japonicus, Adenophora stellariae, and Schisandra chinensis to nourish yin and tonify the lungs. For hot flashes, add Coptis chinensis, Artemisia annua, and Gentiana macrophylla to reduce fever. For soreness of the waist and knees and severe kidney yin deficiency, add Cornus officinalis and Scrophularia ningpoensis to nourish yin and tonify the kidneys.

(ii) Blood deficiency

Treatment method: Nourish blood and clear heat.

Prescription: Bu Gan Tang (Yi Zong Jin Jian≥) with modifications.

Medicines: 15g each of raw and cooked rehmannia, 10g of angelica, 15g each of red and white peony root, 6g of chuanxiong, 10-15g of jujube seed, 10g of papaya, 10g of moutan bark, and 15g of rehmannia root.

Prescription meaning: Rehmannia root, Chinese angelica root, white peony root and Ligusticum chuanxiong make up Siwu Decoction. It is the main prescription for nourishing and harmonizing blood. Jujube seeds and papaya nourish the liver and relax the muscles, while raw rehmannia, red peony root, moutan bark, and rehmannia root bark have the effects of cooling and clearing away heat.

Add or subtract: For those with dry mouth and throat, add Ophiopogon japonicus, Adenophora radix and Dendrobium candidum to nourish yin. For those with sore limbs, add Millettia spatholobi and Polygonum multiflorum to replenish blood. For those who have weak qi and are easily fatigued, add Astragalus and Codonopsis to replenish qi and generate blood.

(III) Fire is not released

Treatment method: Raise yang and disperse fire.

Prescription: Shengyang Sanhuo Decoction (from "Spleen and Stomach Treatise") with modifications.

Medicines: 6-10g of Cimicifuga, 10g of Pueraria lobata, 10g of White Peony Root, 10g of Saposhnikovia divaricata, 10g of Bupleurum chinense, 10g of Notopterygium incisum, and 5g of Licorice.

Meaning of the prescription: Cimicifuga, Pueraria lobata, Bupleurum, Saposhnikovia divaricata and Notopterygium wilfordii are all pungent and dispersing herbs, which can raise yang, relieve excess, and penetrate internal heat, and are the ones that "release accumulated fire". Use white peony root and licorice to relieve urgency and nourish the body, and assist other Yang medicines.

Add or subtract: If there is restlessness, bitter taste in the mouth and severe heat, add a small amount of Coptis chinensis, Scutellaria baicalensis and Gardenia jasminoides to clear away heat. If there is severe heat and damage to the Yin, with dry mouth and throat, add Adenophora scutellariae and Ophiopogon japonicus to nourish the Yin. If the spleen is insufficient, add Codonopsis pilosula and Atractylodes macrocephala to replenish Qi

(IV) Yangming Residual Heat

Treatment method: Clear and drain Yangming, nourish Yin and benefit the stomach.

Prescription: Bamboo Leaf and Gypsum Decoction (Treatise on Febrile Diseases) with modifications.

Medicines: 10g bamboo leaves, 30g raw gypsum (fried first), 15-30g Ophiopogon japonicus, 10-15g Codonopsis pilosula, 10g Pinellia ternata, 10g raw licorice, and a handful of polished rice.

Meaning of the prescription: Bamboo leaves clear the heart and relieve restlessness, gypsum clears the stomach and reduces fire, Ophiopogon japonicus benefits the stomach and nourishes yin, Codonopsis pilosula replenishes qi and strengthens the spleen, Pinellia ternata, licorice, and rice regulate the middle and harmonize the stomach.
