Is it good to do scraping regularly?

Gua Sha is a very common Chinese medicine treatment. It is very helpful to the human body and has the effects of weight loss, beauty, health preservation, and treatment. For some office workers, due to high work pressure and busy official duties, choosing scraping is a very healthy choice.

The therapeutic effect of scraping therapy can be manifested in the following aspects:

1. Strengthen the tendons and meridians

Muscle attachment points and damaged soft tissues such as fascia, ligaments, and joint capsules can send out pain signals, which through the reflex action of nerves put the relevant tissues in a state of alert. Muscle contraction, tension, and even spasm are reflections of this state of alert. Its purpose is to reduce limb activity and thus relieve pain. This is the body's natural protective reaction. At this time, if not treated in time or the treatment is not thorough, the damaged tissue may form adhesions, fibrosis or scarring to varying degrees, which will continuously emit harmful impulses, aggravate pain, tenderness and muscle contraction tension, and then cause secondary pain lesions in the surrounding tissues, forming metabolic disorders, and further aggravating the pathological changes of "pain due to obstruction".

2. Remove blood stasis

Gua Sha can regulate the contraction and relaxation of muscles, so that the pressure between tissues can be adjusted to promote blood circulation around the scraped tissues. Increase tissue flow, thereby playing the role of "promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis" and "removing blood stasis and promoting new blood".

3. Balance Yin and Yang

Scraping has a significant effect in adjusting the balance of yin and yang in the internal organs. For example, for those with hyperperistalsis, using scraping techniques on the abdomen and back can suppress the hyperperistalsis and restore it to normal. On the contrary, for those with decreased intestinal motility, it can promote their motility to return to normal. This shows that scraping can improve and adjust the functions of internal organs and balance the yin and yang of the internal organs.

Taboos of Gua Sha

1. Gua Sha can be performed one hour after a meal. Patients who are too full, too hungry, or overly tired should avoid Gua Sha.

2. People with skin diseases are not suitable for scraping therapy; people with edema, diabetes and heart disease should avoid scraping therapy;

3. Patients with hemophilia, hemorrhagic purpura and other bleeding diseases cannot undergo scraping treatment;

4. Patients with low blood pressure, low blood sugar, excessive weakness, nervousness and fear of pain need light scraping.

5. Pregnant women, infants or young children should receive scraping under the guidance of a qualified physician.

6. Pregnant women’s abdomen, lumbar area, and nipples are prohibited from being scraped.

7. Patients with heart failure, renal failure, liver cirrhosis, ascites, and severe edema of the whole body are prohibited from scraping.

8. For varicose veins in the lower limbs, scrape from bottom to top with gentle techniques.

9. Do not scrape the body areas with moles, sores, swellings, or ulcerated wounds.

At the same time, since scraping will cause certain damage to the skin, it is normal to feel pain in the affected area within 2 to 3 days after scraping.
