What is adrenal gland enlargement?

The adrenal gland is a gland in our human body. It has many functions and there are also some diseases. The most common one is adrenal enlargement. After this disease occurs, we should treat it in time to prevent more serious consequences and side effects. Generally, some symptoms will appear before the adrenal enlargement occurs, reminding you that the adrenal glands are enlarged and should be taken seriously. So what is adrenal enlargement?

Adrenal hyperplasia refers to the extensive proliferation and hyperfunction of chromaffin cells in the medulla. Both of these diseases can increase the synthesis and release of catecholamines, causing hypercatecholamineemia, and their clinical manifestations are similar. Adrenal medullary hyperplasia is a disease that has only been taken seriously since the early 1960s. There is no clear conclusion on its cause. It has been found that it often coexists with other endocrine gland diseases, such as medullary thyroid carcinoma and hyperparathyroidism, and is one of the lesions of multiple endocrine neoplasia type II.

The treatment of adrenal medullary hyperplasia is still mainly surgical. The majority of the hyperplastic bilateral adrenal glands are removed, leaving only part of the cortex to avoid adrenal cortical insufficiency after surgery.

Congenital adrenal hyperplasia is also known as adrenogenital syndrome or adrenal perversion. It is mainly due to defects in the enzymes necessary for the biosynthesis of adrenal cortical hormones, resulting in abnormal synthesis of corticosteroids. In most cases, the adrenal glands secrete insufficient glucose-regulating hormones and salt-regulating hormones but excessive androgens, resulting in varying degrees of adrenal cortical insufficiency clinically, accompanied by masculinization in girls and precocious puberty in boys. In addition, there may be various syndromes such as hyponatremia or hypertension.

Adrenal hyperplasia is a series of clinical signs caused by chronic excessive secretion of adrenal cortex hormones. The main effects on people include full moon face, purple skin lines, acne, hypertension and osteoporosis. Generally, women are more likely to have adrenal hyperplasia than men, and the symptoms are different. A patient may not show the above main symptoms at the same time. You can choose drug treatment and surgical treatment according to your specific situation. You can take some antibiotics before treatment to prevent infection.
