People with bad stomachs need to pay attention to some dietary principles and taboos in their diet, so as to speed up the recovery of the stomach and intestines. It is not recommended to eat kelp if you have a bad stomach, because kelp itself is a food that is cool and cold in nature. At the same time, it should be noted that patients with hyperthyroidism cannot eat kelp.

Three taboos of eating kelp

1. Kelp cannot be soaked for a long time

Do not soak kelp for a long time before eating. Generally speaking, soaking for about 6 hours is enough, because if the soaking time is too long, the nutrients in the kelp, such as water-soluble vitamins, inorganic salts, etc., will also dissolve in the water, and the nutritional value will be reduced. If the kelp becomes loose and has no toughness after being soaked in water, it means it has gone bad and can no longer be eaten. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that kelp is cold in nature and people with weak spleen and stomach should avoid eating it.

2. Don’t eat kelp as a staple food

You cannot use kelp as your staple food for a long time, as this will result in excessive iodine intake and will affect your health. Moreover, kelp contains a certain amount of arsenic, and excessive intake of arsenic can cause poisoning. Therefore, before eating kelp, it should be rinsed with water to dissolve the arsenic in water.

3. Special groups should be careful when eating kelp

Patients with hyperthyroidism should not eat kelp because the iodine content in kelp is high and will aggravate the condition; pregnant women and nursing mothers should not eat too much kelp. This is because the iodine in kelp can enter the body of the fetus and infant through blood circulation, causing thyroid dysfunction.
