2. Weak heart qi

Symptoms: Frequent feeling of palpitations and shortness of breath, sweating or spontaneous sweating when moving, pale complexion, fatigue, decreased appetite, or cold limbs, pale tongue with white coating. Treatment principle: Nourish the heart qi. Main formula: Schisandra chinensis decoction with jujube seed, Poria cocos, etc.

3. Yin deficiency and excessive fire

Symptoms: Frequent palpitations and irritability, sore throat and dry mouth, hot hands and feet, restless and irritable sleep at night, or night sweats, and red tongue with little coating. Treatment principle: Nourish yin, reduce fire and calm the mind. Main formula: Huanglian Ejiao Decoction with jujube seeds, raw rehmannia, etc.

4. Phlegm and fire disturbance

Symptoms: Frequent feeling of palpitations, chest tightness, restlessness, insomnia, dizziness, bitter taste in the mouth, or excessive phlegm, nausea, and yellow and greasy tongue coating. Treatment principle: Clear away heat and phlegm, calm the mind and stabilize the spirit. Main prescription: Huanglian Wendan Decoction with modifications.

5. Qi stagnation and blood stasis

Symptoms: palpitations, chest tightness, stabbing pains in the heart and chest, or bluish lips and nails, dark purple tongue or ecchymosis, and sluggish or intermittent pulse. Treatment principle: Promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis and soothe the mind. Main recipe: Peach kernel and safflower decoction with modifications.
