How to treat cholestatic liver injury

How to treat cholestatic liver injury

In the treatment of cholestatic liver injury, it is necessary to choose the treatment method scientifically. First of all, we must pay attention to the treatment of the underlying cause, especially for diseases such as tumors and stones that cause obstruction. If necessary, surgical treatment is required to cure the disease. The use of drugs must also be based on the doctor's advice.

1. Treat the underlying cause

For cholestasis with a clear underlying cause, efforts should be made to cure or control the underlying disease if possible. If the obstruction is caused by tumors or stones, radical tumor resection or ERCP stone removal can be performed. Repairing bile duct stricture can restore normal bile duct drainage. Immunosuppressants may be effective for immune damage to the bile duct. For drug-induced cholestasis, the relevant drugs should be discontinued in a timely manner.

2. Supportive and symptomatic treatment

Ursodeoxycholic acid, polyene phosphatidylcholine capsules, adenosine methionine, and phenobarbital. Traditional Chinese medicine preparations have the effects of promoting bile secretion, reducing jaundice and lowering enzymes, such as Bupleurum, White Peony Root, Artemisia Capillaris, Salvia miltiorrhiza, etc.; for the treatment of itching, fat-soluble vitamins, calcium and vitamin D can be supplemented.

3. Liver transplantation

The one-year survival rate for patients with certain types of end-stage cholestatic diseases, such as primary biliary cirrhosis (PBS), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), and biliary atresia, is approximately 90%.
