TCM treatment of thyroiditis

The treatment of thyroiditis must of course be carried out scientifically. In addition to some conventional drug treatment and control, traditional Chinese medicine treatment is also relatively effective. However, traditional Chinese medicine treatment should be based on dialectical analysis. If there is qi stagnation and fire excess, Poria cocos, Atractylodes macrocephala, and Citrus aurantium are all common medicines.

1. Syndrome of excessive heat and toxicity: acute onset, tough goiter, obvious tenderness, dry mouth, fear of heat, red tongue, thin yellow fur, and floating and rapid pulse. Treatment method: Soothe wind and clear heat, detoxify and reduce swelling. The prescription is Yinqiao Powder combined with Wuwei Xiaodu Yin with modifications. Dandelion, isatis root, iris root, honeysuckle, forsythia, burdock fruit, corydalis, isatis indigotica, phyllostachys chinensis, platycodon, peony, achyranthes bidentata, etc.

2. Qi stagnation and excessive fire syndrome: goiter and pain are relieved, anxiety and sweating, restlessness and insomnia, dizziness and fatigue, red tongue with little coating, and stringy and rapid pulse. Treatment method: Promote Qi circulation and relieve depression, clear fire and reduce swelling. The prescription is Danzhi Xiaoyao Powder with modifications. Cortex Moutan, Gardenia, Angelica, White Peony Root, Bupleurum, Curcuma, Menthus, Corydalis, Toosendan Fructus, Poria, Atractylodes, Citrus aurantium, Cyperus rotundus, Litchi Seed, etc.

3. Qi stagnation and phlegm obstruction syndrome: goiter and pain are significantly reduced or disappear, there is discomfort in the ribs, poor appetite, fatigue, pale red tongue, thin white or greasy tongue coating, and a stringy and slippery pulse. Treatment method: Regulate Qi and relieve depression, resolve phlegm and disperse nodules. Prescription: Chaihu Shugan San combined with Erchen Tang with modifications. Bupleurum, peony, fructus aurantii, cyperus rotundus, bergamot, fritillaria, raw oyster, Scrophularia, tangerine peel, coix seed, atractylodes, poria, licorice, etc.

4. Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome: goiter and pain disappear, limbs feel heavy, eyelids and cheeks are swollen, stool is constipated, tongue is red with teeth marks, tongue coating is scant, pulse is thin or weak. Treatment method: Strengthen the spleen and replenish Qi, nourish Yin and produce body fluid. Prescription: Shengmai San combined with Sijunzi Decoction with modifications. Astragalus, Codonopsis pilosula, Ophiopogon japonicus, Schisandra chinensis, Atractylodes macrocephala, Poria cocos, Angelica sinensis, Fritillaria thunbergii, Licorice, etc.
