What are the effects and functions of Magnolia officinalis

Many diseases in life can be alleviated by Chinese herbal medicine, which is more effective and has fewer side effects than Western medicine. Magnolia officinalis is a Chinese herbal medicine. It has many functions and effects. For people with poor stomach, Magnolia officinalis has a certain stomach-strengthening and digestive effect.

1. Effects on the gastrointestinal tract The bitter taste of Magnolia officinalis and its volatile oil can stimulate the taste buds, reflexively causing the secretion of saliva and gastric juice, and accelerating gastrointestinal motility, thus having a stomach-strengthening and digestion-aiding effect. Both raw Magnolia officinalis and ginger-fried Magnolia officinalis have anti-gastric ulcer effects. The anti-gastric ulcer effect is enhanced after ginger processing, but the anti-gastric ulcer effect of stir-fried Magnolia officinalis is not obvious. Honokiol and magnolol are effective active ingredients for inhibiting gastric mucosal ulcers. Magnolia officinalis has an inhibitory effect on gastric ulcers caused by pyloric ligation, water immersion stress, etc., and also has a certain inhibitory effect on duodenal spasm caused by histamine.

2. Anti-pathogenic microorganisms In vitro experiments have shown that Magnolia officinalis decoction has antibacterial effects on gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus, hemolytic Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, Bordetella pertussis, and gram-negative bacteria such as anthrax bacteria, dysentery bacteria, typhoid bacteria, paratyphoid bacteria, Vibrio cholerae, Escherichia coli, Proteus, and Bacillus subtilis.

3. Effect on the central nervous system The ether extract of Magnolia officinalis has a significant sedative effect. Intraperitoneal injection can inhibit the spontaneous activity of mice and counteract the excitatory effects caused by methamphetamine or apomorphine. Magnolia officinalis and honokiol also have significant central nervous system inhibitory effects. The central nervous system inhibitory mechanism of Magnolia officinalis is to cause muscle relaxation by inhibiting polysynaptic reflexes and inhibit the action of glutamate, the precursor of spinal excitatory conduction substances, to produce spinal cord inhibitory effects.
