What should I do if my ears bleed? How to take care of bleeding ears

In daily life, most people will encounter ear bleeding. The ear is a very fragile organ. Using an ear spoon or external trauma can cause ear bleeding. Ear bleeding may be caused by damage to the eardrum. You should stop the bleeding in time, observe the situation, or go to the hospital for treatment.

The first thing to consider is the issue of stopping bleeding. We can use ordinary household medical cotton balls, take out the cotton balls, roll them into strips, and gently insert them into the ear canal. Allow the cotton to absorb the blood flowing out of the ear canal to prevent it from flowing into the ear hole. If you can’t absorb it all at once, take a few more times.

Secondly, carefully feel the feeling of your ears. If the bleeding has stopped but the ear still hurts, or even there is tinnitus, it is likely a problem with the eardrum and you should go to the ENT department of the hospital immediately for treatment. If after stopping the bleeding, you observe the cotton pad and find that the blood is not very deep, it is possible that the bleeding is just from the skin of the ear canal.

If the bleeding has stopped and it is determined that the bleeding is only from an abrasion to the skin of the ear canal, you can consider disinfecting it yourself. You can go to a nearby pharmacy to buy medical iodine-containing disinfectant cotton balls. If the bleeding is from the right ear, turn your head to the right and gently insert the cotton ball into the ear canal to allow the iodine to cover the surface of the wound and form a protective film. Be careful not to squeeze out too much disinfectant, otherwise it will flow from your ears into your mouth.

Medicinal alcohol can be used to disinfect the skin, but it will be a bit painful if there is a wound. Can be used if skin is not broken.

In contrast, iodine tincture is a widely used skin and mucous membrane disinfectant that can be used to disinfect broken skin. I recommend using iodine. Before use, check whether the ingredients contain alcohol and use alcohol-free iodine.

After disinfection, your ears will still feel strange. Do not touch them with your hands, ear spoons, or cotton swabs to prevent the wound from expanding or becoming infected and inflamed. After a while, tissue fluid will flow out of the wound in the ear canal. Don't worry, just continue to absorb it with medical cotton.

If there is nothing unusual, just wait for the wound in the ear canal to scar and it will heal in a few days.

If you have any other problems, see an ENT doctor immediately and do not handle it yourself.
