Is hyperthyroidism hereditary?

Is hyperthyroidism hereditary?

Hyperthyroidism is quite common and very harmful, so we should choose standardized methods for treatment. Generally, hyperthyroidism is not hereditary. It is an autoimmune system disease, so there is no need to worry that hyperthyroidism may be inherited because this problem does not exist.

The human immune system includes cellular immunity and humoral immunity. It is precisely because of the existence of these immune systems that the body can be protected from damage by various natural factors. Autoimmunity refers to the process in which the body loses immune tolerance to its own tissue components or bacterial antigens, leading to the production of immune effector cells or autoantibodies and causing self-damage. Autoimmunity is physiological in many cases. In addition to defending against damage from nature, it also has an internal surveillance function that can protect normal tissue cells and eliminate aging and mutated cells. When the autoimmune response exceeds the physiological limit or lasts too long, causing damage and dysfunction of the body's own tissues and leading to disease, it is called an autoimmune disease. Some of these lesions are systemic, while others only involve certain organs. Hyperthyroidism belongs to the latter - an organ-specific autoimmune disease.

Among various types of hyperthyroidism, the genetic tendency of toxic diffuse goiter Graves' disease is the most obvious, while other types of hyperthyroidism are generally believed to have no obvious relationship with genetics. Family members of patients with toxic diffuse goiter have a significantly increased chance of developing the disease.

Human leukocyte antigen is a genetic marker. Many studies have found that patients with toxic diffuse goiter have a significant increase in one or several human leukocyte antigens, further indicating that this disease is closely related to genetics.
