How to eradicate onychomycosis?

How to eradicate onychomycosis?

Onychomycosis is very distressing, and if it is not treated properly, it can be contagious. Therefore, the treatment of onychomycosis must be careful and meticulous. Topical medications are essential, and of course it can also be solved by taking some medications orally and using Chinese medicine.

1. External application of drugs

① Apply externally with 10% iodine, 6% salicylic acid, or 30% glacial acetic acid: You can choose any of the three coating solutions and apply it to the diseased nail 1 to 2 times a day. The diseased nail should be scraped thinly before use. You can continue to apply the medicine until the new nail grows out. Generally, treatment is required for 3 to 6 months. (When applying the medicine, avoid applying it to the skin around the nails to avoid damaging the skin).

② Apply 8% ciclopirox ointment externally: Apply to the affected nail twice a day and continue applying until the new nail grows out. Generally, treatment takes 3-6 months.

③ Apply Yikanda Miaoyu Huijianing externally, which has relatively good bactericidal ability at present. During the growth process of new nails, it can form good antibacterial ability for new nails.

2. Oral medication

It is suitable for patients with severe nail damage, a large number of diseased nails and poor response to local medication.

Currently, clinicians often recommend the following oral antifungal drugs to treat onychomycosis:

Fluconazole (Diflucan): 150 mg orally daily, generally required for 3 to 6 months.

The advantage of oral medication is that it can treat diseases from the inside out, avoiding the trouble of applying medicine every day, and is easy and convenient. At the same time, oral medication can also treat tinea pedis, tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea capitis, etc. The above three drugs have been on the market in my country for more than ten years, with extensive clinical applications and proven efficacy. Among them, after taking Sporanox capsules for one week, the drug can directly reach the nails. After stopping the drug, when there is almost no drug in the patient's blood, the drug will continue to exist in his or her nails, which greatly improves the effectiveness of the oral drug. The disadvantage of medication treatment is that the cost is relatively high and some patients will experience adverse reactions. Therefore, patients should take the drug under the guidance of a doctor, especially those with liver disease and pregnant and lactating women should avoid taking the above-mentioned drugs.

3. Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine treatment of onychomycosis:

1. Use a cotton swab dipped in compound radix ophiopogonis tincture to soak the nails once a day for 10 minutes each time. Before using the medicine, use a knife to scrape off the gray nails (toenails), and scrape them once every week.

2. Grind the licorice, artificial bezoar and Sichuan pepper into fine powder, mix it into a paste with white wine, and add a little glycerin to apply to the affected area.

3. Mash the white balsam flower and apply it on the nails. Wrap it with cloth and change it once a day until it is healed.

4. Take equal parts of Sophora flavescens, Kochia scoparia, and Fennel, soak them in 75% ethanol, apply the liquid to the affected area several times a day.

However, this method is not very effective and may damage the skin if used improperly, so it is not recommended.
