Is moyamoya disease hereditary?
Moyamoya disease is a relatively rare cerebrovascular disease. The main symptom of patients is a smoke-like appearance during cerebral angiography, hence the name. This disease is very harmful and can cause great damage to people's lives. Therefore, people with the disease are often very painful. The incidence of moyamoya disease is low, but the harm is great. Is moyamoya disease hereditary? Let’s take a look at the explanation below. I hope everyone can understand.

Moyamoya disease is also known as abnormal vascular network at the base of the brain , Moyamoya disease, and basilar arterial ring occlusion. There are currently two different opinions on whether moyamoya disease can be inherited: 1. According to existing data statistical reports, most scholars believe that moyamoya disease is related to genetics because the incidence of moyamoya disease is much higher in the case of genetics. 2. Although there is data to support this, there is no actual rigorous theory to prove that moyamoya disease can be inherited.

The cause of moyamoya disease is still unclear and there is no scientific conclusion. However, some scientists believe that moyamoya disease may be related to genetics. Because recent studies have found that the occurrence of moyamoya disease is related to genetic abnormalities of chromosome 3 3p24.2-26, chromosome 6 D6s441 and chromosome 17. At the same time, statistics show that the incidence rate of moyamoya disease among siblings is 42 times higher than that of ordinary people, and the incidence rate among children of patients is 37 times higher.

Although these statistics exist, there is no actual rigorous theory to prove that moyamoya disease can be inherited. Professor Jin Yongjian reminds that those with a family history of moyamoya disease can undergo a cerebrovascular screening to detect and treat it as early as possible. Professor Jin introduced that currently the best way to treat moyamoya disease is to perform combined vascular bypass surgery. Combined vascular bypass surgery is a procedure that combines direct bypass and patching in one operation. It quickly establishes collateral blood flow channels to immediately improve local blood supply to the brain. At the same time, it performs large-area multi-factor patching on the brain surface to induce the formation of new blood vessels, improve blood supply to brain tissue more comprehensively, and resolve brain ischemia with a single operation.
