Moxibustion acupoints for constipation

1. Tianshu

[Standard Positioning] When locating the acupoint, you can lie on your back. The Tianshu point is located in the middle abdomen of the human body, 2 inches on both sides of the navel.

[Main diseases treated] Constipation, abdominal distension, diarrhea, pain around the umbilicus, ascites, intestinal paralysis, indigestion, nausea and vomiting, etc.

2. Daheng

[Standard location] Daheng point is located in the middle abdomen of the human body, 4 inches away from the navel.

【Main Indications】Diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain

3. Large Intestine Shu

[Standard location] On the waist, 1.5 inches lateral to the spinous process of the 4th lumbar vertebra.

【Main Indications】Digestive system diseases: enteritis, dysentery, constipation, indigestion in children;

4. Branch ditch

[Standard positioning] Stretch your arm and place your palm downward. Locate the acupoint 3 inches directly above the midpoint of the transverse wrist line on the back of your hand, between the ulna and radius, opposite to the Jianshi acupoint.

[Main diseases treated] Digestive system diseases: habitual constipation, vomiting and diarrhea.

5. Chengshan

[Standard Positioning] Chengshan point is on the measured midline of the calf. When you extend your calf or lift your heel, you can see that when the middle muscle on the back of the calf (rectum muscle) contracts, a herringbone-shaped bifurcation is formed. Chengshan point is at the apex of this herringbone-shaped groove.

【Main diseases】Hemorrhoids, constipation, rectal prolapse, back and leg pain, etc.

Acupoints: add Quchi, Shangjuxu, and Taixi for insufficient body fluid; add Taichong and Qihai for stagnation of Qi; add spleen and kidney false spleen point, Shenshu, and Taixi

Moxibustion method: Use moxa sticks or moxibustion box for mild moxibustion. A 3-hole moxibustion box is recommended for the abdomen and a single-hole moxibustion box is recommended for the back. Use moxa sticks to directly moxibustion the Zhigou point, or directly tie a portable moxibustion stick. Each time, each acupoint will be treated for 15-20 minutes, and one course of treatment is 7 days.
