What are the effects of Metoclopramide?

Metoclopramide is a relatively common drug, especially in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. It is very effective, can increase gastrointestinal motility, promote gastrointestinal excretion, is also very effective in coordinating the stomach and duodenum, and prevents nausea and vomiting. Of course, all medicines are toxic, and you should not rely on drug treatment for a long time. Excessive dependence can easily cause adverse effects on the liver and kidneys.

Function and use

It is suitable for indigestion caused by delayed gastric emptying, gastroesophageal reflux, and esophagitis, such as upper abdominal distension, abdominal distension, upper abdominal pain, belching, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, and stomach burning sensation with or without reflux of gastric contents in the mouth. It can also treat nausea, vomiting, etc. caused by functional, organic, infectious, dietary, radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

Long-term use hazards

1. Long-term dependence on drugs will reduce one’s own regulatory ability and immunity, and at the same time increase the harm of drug toxicity to people [1].

2. Liver damage may cause jaundice and decreased liver function, and in severe cases, acute liver necrosis.

3. Thyroid enlargement and hypofunction may occur occasionally.

4. Nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, etc. Generally, the symptoms are mild and do not affect continued medication. Occasionally, patients develop Clostridium difficile enteritis, in which case the drug needs to be discontinued.

5. Kidney damage may cause crystalluria, hematuria and tubular urine. Occasionally, patients may experience serious adverse reactions such as interstitial nephritis or renal tubular necrosis.

6. Long-term use of drugs to improve gastric motility and solve indigestion will increase drug resistance, reduce drug sensitivity, and greatly reduce the body's own immune system.
