Is it normal for the baby's fontanelle not to jump?

Is it normal for the baby's fontanelle not to jump?

For a newborn baby, the doctor will observe the development of his head to determine whether the baby is healthy and rule out some diseases. So why is this? As we all know, the skull of a newborn baby is not fully developed and there is still a gap between them. This is called fontanelle in medicine and is a very important examination item. So is it normal for a baby's head not to beat?

Is it better for the fontanelle to twitch noticeably or not noticeably?

There is no obvious good or bad news about the twitching of the fontanelle. The twitching of the baby's fontanelle is caused by the activity of the brain tissue. The twitching of the fontanelle reflects the heart rate. Generally, when the baby is excited or exercising, the anterior fontanelle will twitch more violently. At this time, parents can check the baby's body temperature and other conditions. As long as the baby does not show obvious symptoms of discomfort, there is no need to worry.

Some babies have larger fontanelles, and you can see obvious beating, while some babies have smaller fontanelles and you can't see obvious beating. But as the baby grows up, the fontanelle will gradually become larger, and at this time you can usually see obvious pulsation. After that, the baby's fontanelle will gradually shrink and close, so the pulsation will gradually become less obvious.

However, usually the baby's fontanelle is not seen jumping before two and a half months old, which means that the size of the fontanelle is normally developed, the child is healthy and not lacking in calcium. If you see it jumping, it means the fontanelle is too large and the baby may have a calcium deficiency. Parents can consult a doctor to supplement calcium in time.

Is it normal for the baby's fontanelle not to jump?

The large fontanelle is about 2×2 cm in size at birth. As the baby grows, it usually closes when the baby is between 1 and 1.5 years old. Sometimes when you touch the anterior fontanelle with your hand, you may feel palpitations or see them beating. This is caused by the pulsation of the subcutaneous blood vessels in the anterior fontanelle. If there are no larger arteries passing under the skin, you will not see the beating, which is normal. Moreover, most babies' anterior fontanelles do not pulsate. In addition, if the anterior fontanelle is too small, it will not be easy to see the beating, so there is no need to worry.

How to care for your baby's fontanelle

Daily care:

1. Do not use pillows that are too hard for your baby, such as mung bean pillows or sand pillows, otherwise it will easily cause the baby's head to deform.

2. Don’t let your baby sleep in a fixed position all the time. If you want your baby’s head shape to be perfect, you should turn him over frequently and change his sleeping position. Babies like light. If he is used to sleeping on one side, you can use light to attract him on the other side.

3. Pay attention to the furniture at home to avoid sharp corners that may hurt your baby's head.

4. If the baby accidentally scratches the scalp, it should be disinfected immediately with an alcohol cotton ball to prevent infection.

5. When going out in winter, you should wear a thicker hat to protect the fontanelle while reducing heat loss.

Note:

1. The fontanelle can be cleaned during bathing. You can use baby-specific shampoo instead of strong alkaline soap to avoid irritating the scalp and inducing or aggravating eczema.

2. When cleaning, your fingers should be placed flat on the fontanelle and rubbed gently. Do not press or scratch too hard, and do not scratch the fontanelle with hard objects.

3. If there is dirt on the fontanelle that is difficult to wash off, you can first steam it with sesame oil or refined oil and then soak it for 2 to 3 hours. After the dirt becomes soft, use a sterile cotton ball to wipe it off in the direction of hair growth, and then sprinkle it with baby powder after washing.
