What are the symptoms of cervical spondylosis?

Cervical spondylosis is a common disease that many friends do not take seriously. In fact, mild cervical spondylosis can be completely cured through proper rest, but if you continue to work overtime, the cervical spondylosis will become more serious. The more common symptoms of cervical spondylosis include neck pain, shoulder numbness, radiating pain in the lower limbs, etc. These pains have a great impact on the patient's life.

Cervical spondylosis refers to a clinical syndrome in which a series of symptoms occur due to cervical disc degeneration, cervical spondylosis and neck injury, which cause cervical bone hyperplasia, or disc herniation, ligament thickening, etc., which stimulate or compress the cervical spinal cord, cervical nerves and blood vessels. The main symptoms are neck and shoulder pain, dizziness and headache, numbness of the upper limbs, muscle atrophy, and in severe cases, spasms of both lower limbs, difficulty walking, and even paralysis of the limbs, urinary and bowel disorders, and paralysis. It is more common in middle-aged and elderly people, and the incidence rate in men is higher than that in women.

Common symptoms of cervical spondylosis generally include the following five types:

(1) Neck symptoms: The symptoms of cervical spondylosis first manifest as neck pain, neck stiffness, neck rigidity, limited movement, neck muscle spasms, difficulty in neck movement, a feeling of being tied up, "scratching", a feeling of bloating in the neck, and a feeling of "stiff neck". The head often tilts to one side, and it is difficult to raise, lower, or rotate the head.

(2) Upper limb symptoms: numbness, pain, movement and sensory disorders, hyperalgesia, electric shock sensation in the shoulders, arms, and back, numbness or tingling sensation in the fingers, weakness and heaviness in the hands, unstable holding, tremor paralysis, and other common symptoms of cervical spondylosis, upper limb muscle atrophy, and limited shoulder peripheral motion.

(3) Lower limb symptoms: Radiating pain, coldness, numbness, chillness, or hot pain in the lower limbs, weakness, inability to stand, walk, or squat may occur. The symptoms may worsen after activity and improve after rest, or worsen just after rest. They may improve after activity but worsen again after further activity. It is related to weather changes, getting worse when it is cold, getting better when it is hot, or not being obvious. In severe cases, it may cause muscle atrophy, lameness, and decreased function. These are common symptoms of cervical spondylosis.

(4) Ocular symptoms (neck-eye syndrome): unable to open eyes and can only lie flat with eyes closed; eyes feel swollen, heavy, and unable to open eyes; accompanied by blurred vision, decreased vision, flashes of light in front of the eyes, dark spots, and visual field defects; excessive movement of the neck may cause eye pain, eye muscle spasm, transient blindness, and conjunctival congestion.

(5) Headache: Symptoms of cervical spondylosis also include radiating pain, shooting pain, numbness, distending pain, heavy pain, hot pain, cold pain, local pain, forehead pain, pain on both sides, pain at the top of the head, mild pain, moderate pain, and severe pain. In severe cases, the pain may be relieved by "banging the wall" or even vomiting. Dizziness: headache, vertigo, even nausea, vomiting, transient blindness accompanied by dizziness, heaviness in the head, etc., even the feeling of fainting or sudden fainting, waking up later and being like a normal person.
